Job Summary:HOLT CAT is the largest Caterpillar dealership of heavy equipment in the United States. We have a full-time Shop Service Technician position available at our Tyler Texas location. This mechanic position is responsible for performing troubleshooting diagnoses and repairs of diesel-powered heavy construction CAT equipment and/or related equipment and it components. The Technician will be following established dealership procedures and guidelines. Works independently or as a member of a team to provide mechanical services that satisfies customer needs and achieves departmental goals. The hours are Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. We are located at 12218 State Highway 31 W Tyler Texas 75709.

Essential Functions:

• Models promotes reinforces and rewards the consistent use of HOLTs Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools models and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision Values and Mission
• Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions and failures
• Disassembles and assembles machine components to manufacturers specifications through the use of hand tools pneumatic tools and any specialized tooling
• Rebuilds repairs reconditions and maintains equipment and components
• Demonstrates good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management
• Plans and controls cost of repair jobs
• Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return
• Mentors and helps train other technicians
• Maintains all equipment and work areas keeps in good clean and orderly condition
• Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies procedures and standards
• Works overtime as required by workload and customers needs
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g. ProTech Technician Training Paths
• Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
• Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of Caterpillar machines and tools including their designs uses repair and maintenance
• Knowledge of heavy equipment machines such as dozers excavators motor graders and other dirt moving equipment or related similar equipment
• Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software related hardware and machine electronic systems
• Knowledge of CAT ET and CAT SIS programs.
• Quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products services or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings
• Operation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systems
• Equipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
• Ability to operate a forklift and an overhead crane
• The ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions
• Ability to operate hand tools power tools pneumatic tools and equipment used in mechanical repair
• The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp manipulate or assemble very small objects
• The ability to read write and understand information and use a computer on a daily basis.
• The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
• Must have/acquire mechanic tooling and pneumatic tools (metric/standard) in order to complete the job.

Education and Experience:

• At least 4 years of diesel-powered heavy equipment repair experience preferred
• Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams experience is preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Graduation from a diesel technology program preferred

Travel:

• No travel is expected for this position

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
• Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
• Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity coordination and stamina
• Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment
• Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment
• Routinely reacts to visual auditory and other signals including alarms and instructions and is required to visually inspect work

Work Environment:

• Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts
• May be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather heat cold and humidity
• Noise level may be loud at times
• Exposure to small quantities of chemicals dust steam high-pressure water and high speed rotating equipment
• Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
• Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places

Required Experience:
