Job Title: A-Shift Alley Buyer
Location: Onsite Columbus Junction IA 52738 US

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented A-Shift Alley Buyer to join our team in Columbus Junction IA. This hands-on role involves working in a hog yard environment and is responsible for sorting weighing tattooing permanently identifying and penning livestock. The Alley Buyer will be trained on Tyson s Pork Procurement Programs and will also act as a station relief buyer in the manager s absence. This is a growth-focused opportunity for individuals seeking to become a full Hog Buyer.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Sort count weigh tattoo and permanently identify hogs.

  • Pen livestock according to segregation programs and protocols.

  • Learn and apply Tyson Pork Procurement Programs carcass merit data harvest sheet procedures and weight dock processes.

  • Understand and operate within long-term contractual buying agreements.

  • Provide backup support as a station relief buyer during vacations or training coverage.

  • Follow all Tyson SOPs related to animal handling USDA regulations and safety protocols.

Minimum Qualifications (Non-Negotiable):
  • Bachelor of Science in Agriculture or a livestock production background.

  • December 2025 graduates will be considered with an employment contingency based on degree completion.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves):
  • Hands-on livestock handling experience.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Basic computer proficiency.

  • Willingness to travel overnight when required.

  • Comfort working in a variable-temperature environment with standard PPE (hard hat steel-toe boots hearing protection).

Physical & Work Environment Requirements:
  • Stand or walk for extended periods.

  • Occasional use of moderate to heavy force to assist compromised hogs.

  • Minimal lifting (tools/equipment < 5 lbs).

  • Use of full-hand grasp for tools and gate operations.
