Job Description

As the Agency/Group Disbursement Accountant youll be at the heart of our financial operationsowning the accuracy integrity and timeliness of Agency Disbursement Reporting. In this fast-paced role youll take charge of reconciling complex disbursement accounts ensuring every transaction is precise and compliant. With a sharp eye for detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving youll collaborate across departments and accounting teams throughout NPDL driving efficient processes and supporting seamless financial operations. Reporting directly to the Group Disbursement Accounting Manager youll play a key role in keeping our disbursement engine running smoothly.

What you will be doing:

  • Take ownership of reviewing and reconciling agent-submitted disbursement accountsensuring theyre complete accurate and delivered on time.
  • Dive deep into disbursement data verifying every detail aligns with NPDLs contractual terms and financial standards.
  • Drive the timely preparation and submission of monthly disbursement accounts using NPDLs templates and guidelines.
  • Perform regular reconciliations to validate charges catch discrepancies early and ensure every dollar is accounted for.
  • Ensure all disbursement charges are backed by proper documentation and supporting evidence from agents.
  • Work closely with internal teams to confirm that all costs are properly approved and processed in NPDLs financial systems.
  • Reconcile and confirm monthly intercompany balances with each agency to maintain clean transparent books.
  • Liaise with agents port authorities and internal departments to resolve any disputeskeeping communication clear consistent and proactive.
  • Build strong working relationships across the business to ensure smooth and efficient disbursement operations.
  • Deliver insightful analysis reporting and recommendations that support financial accuracy and business decisions.
  • Keep meticulous records of all disbursement accounts and supporting documentsensuring easy access and audit readiness.
  • Partner with Company/Agency Accountants to ensure timely submission of costs via the Oracle system for seamless review and approval.
  • Leverage accounting tools and systems to streamline processes enhance data analysis and support smarter decision-making.

Qualifications :

Heres what youll bring to the table:

  • A bachelors degree in Finance Accounting or a related field (a strong foundation to build on!).
  • Previous experience in the shipping or logistics industry is a definite plusyoull hit the ground running.
  • Familiarity with systems like CargoWise or Oracle Even better.
  • Advanced Excel wizardrypivot tables VLOOKUPs data analysisyou name it you can do it.
  • A sharp ability to juggle competing priorities manage deadlines and keep your cool under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills to collaborate across teams and keep processes running smoothly.
  • A proactive self-starter mindset with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong financial literacy and sound understanding of accounting principles including reconciliations and financial control.
  • A forward-thinker who thrives in fast-paced evolving environments and isnt afraid of a little ambiguity.
  • Exceptional attention to detailyou dont just spot the numbers; you make sense of them.
  • Confident presenting financial data and insights to stakeholders across the business.
  • Solid experience with income statement reporting and how it all flows through to the P&L.
  • A tech-savvy mindset with the ability to get the best out of systems still being optimized.
  • Comfortable navigating high-volume transactions and large datasets with ease and accuracy.

This 12-month fixed-term role based in our Parnell office is a key position to provide support during our Oracle system implementation. You will have the right to live and work in New Zealand or Australia at the time of applying. The successful candidate may be subject to undergo a Police Check and/or Pre-Employment Drug Test.
