Austin PBS is your locally owned community-supported PBS station in Central Texas. With thousands of hours of programming across multiple platforms and hundreds of community events each year Austin PBS has the potential to reach nearly every household daily.
Each year we broadcast 35000 hours of free curated content across our four channels and the PBS app covering arts culture history public affairs and both local and national news.

Position Overview
Austin PBS is seeking a motivated and intellectually curious undergraduate student to join our Archives team as an Archive Intern. This 14-week part-time paid internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with archival materials digital preservation workflows and legacy media formats. Youll work closely with our Director of Archives and Digital Archives Specialist to support the preservation and accessibility of Austin PBSs rich public media history. This role is ideal for students interested in pursuing graduate studies in Library and Information Studies (LIS) Archival Studies or the broader Library Archives and Museum (LAM) fields.


Role & Responsibilities

  • Support digitization of photographs audio and video materials
  • Assist with the arrangement and description of unprocessed archival collections
  • Help create finding aids and metadata using schemas such as Dublin Core
  • Organize and clean existing archival datasets to enhance usability
  • Respond to research requests and inquiries from Austin PBS staff and the public
  • Participate in special archive projects pop-up displays and station-wide events

Physical Demands
The working environment is primarily a general office setting with tasks that may include lifting archival boxes (up to 30 lbs) and handling legacy media formats with care.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate student must be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university degree program during the full duration of the internship
  • Current undergraduate student enrolled in a relevant degree program (e.g. History Photography Computer Science Anthropology Data Analytics etc.)
  • Internship will be in-person
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in archives digital preservation storytelling and public media
  • Basic familiarity with digital media formats and file types is a plus
  • Ability to lift and carry boxes up to 30lbs
  • Willingness to learn and collaborate with a cross collaborative team
