Job Description

This person is responsible for the analysis planning implementation and evaluation of revenue cycle related information systems that may impact any department or user. Responsibilities of the position include working in collaboration with clinical informatics and other leaders and providers to optimize the utility and sustainability of the EMR including workflow analysis and process redesign. This position will be responsible for coaching training of staff and providers co-leading the CT Group testing updates of assigned applications and assisting with the EPIC Build for new service lines. The Revenue Cycle and Ambulatory Informatics Specialist seeks to enhance the quality of services by acting as resource to management and staff as it relates to documentation within the assigned areas and is responsible for report requests and data verification.

EMR Support and Education

  • Represents CCH in a professional manner promotes positive interpersonal relations and serves as a role model for hospital personnel.
  • Attendance at bi-monthly community connect and weekly informatics meetings.
  • Attend CT (credentialed trainer) connect meetings when applicable.
  • Participate in Informatics Rounding Calls.
  • Serves as an EPIC resource for CCH personnel.
  • Completes classes required to become a credentialed trainer in appropriate applications.
  • Provides relevant updates and provides training as needed.
  • Becomes a super user in relevant software applications including EMR and outside of EMR.
  • Distributes the EPIC newsletters to managers and credentialed trainers at the hospital.
  • Provides oversight of downtime process and preparedness.
  • Round on each assigned department routinely seeking opportunities to increase efficiencies.
  • Quarterly review of efficiency reports with stakeholders involved.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.

Co-lead Credentialed Trainers

  • Works collaboratively with the credentialed trainers and department leaders to redesign departmental workflows/processes within the EMR system to support quality of care and efficiencies.
  • Distributes new downtime procedures throughout the hospital to credentialed trainers to place in their respective departments.

EMR Upgrades Builds and Current Processes

  • Serves as Project Coordinator of Revenue Cycle EMR Upgrades
  • Serves as Informatics liaison both internally and between Clarke County Hospital and Unity Point.
  • Provides Oversight to Downtime Process and education needs.
  • Participates in monthly EPIC Administration Calls with Unity Point.
  • Assists with quality and UR related EPIC issues/problems.
  • Supports Clinical Informatics Specialist on clinical workflows training education problem resolution end-user support for all hospital and ambulatory departments.

MR Reports

  • Learns and becomes proficient in running EPIC Reports
  • Work with Administration and Department Leaders to gather data when needed.

Communication

  • Excellent communication with end users and department leaders including timely follow-up.
  • Rounds on Department Leaders routinely to gather feedback and areas of improvement.
  • Actively represents Informatics in Committee Meetings Work Groups and Informatics Calls

Basic Clarke County Hospital (CCH) Performance Criteria

  • Demonstrates Clarke County Hospital Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to hospital policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrates the ability to meet business needs of department with regular reliable attendance.
  • Employees maintain current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA DIA DNV OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Requirements

Education: Associates degree. Preferred: Bachelors degree.

Experience: Minimum of 2 years of healthcare revenue cycle experience. Preferred: Experience using EPIC.

License(s)/Certification(s): Preferred: Billing Coding or Nursing Preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Planning and organizing skills. Managing priorities/deadlines. Excellent interpersonal communication. Proficient operating a PC. Speaks and writes fluent in English. Excellent critical thinking skills. Ability to access manipulate organize and relay information in meaningful ways.

Shifts/Schedule: M-F 8am-5pm
