Position Summary:
The Student Government Advisor at The Odyssey Institute for Advanced and International Studies (OIAIS) supports scholar leadership school spirit and civic engagement by guiding the elected student government in planning organizing and executing school-wide activities. The advisor fosters leadership development and ensures student-led initiatives align with the schools values mission and International Baccalaureate (IB) learner profile.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary mentor to student government officers and representatives in leadership planning communication and responsibility.
- Supervise and attend all student government meetings (zero period Monday-Thursday)
- Guide students in the planning and execution of campus events such as spirit weeks dances fundraisers service projects and assemblies.
- Ensure student government initiatives reflect the schools core values IB philosophy and policies.
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of governing documents including constitutions bylaws and event protocols.
- Coordinate student government elections in collaboration with school leadership.
- Manage the student government budget responsibly ensuring accountability and transparency in spending
- Act as a liaison between student government and faculty staff administration and the broader OIAIS community.
- Support inclusive and equitable student representation and encourage diverse student participation.
- Promote a culture of service scholarship and leadership in alignment with the schools mission.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in education or a related field (preferred).
- Current Arizona teaching certificate or relevant school staff clearance.
- Experience working with high school scholars.
- Strong leadership organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor scholar leaders and manage scholar-led events.
- Understanding of adolescent development and a commitment to scholar voice and empowerment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with scholar leadership government or extracurricular coordination in a school setting.
- Familiarity with International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy and learner profile.
- Knowledge of event planning fundraising guidelines and school finance procedures.
- Familiar with student parliamentary procedure.
Work Schedule & Expectations:
- Flexibility to attend student events outside regular school hours (e.g. dances meetings service days).
- Ability to manage multiple projects and scholar initiatives simultaneously.
- Collaborate regularly with administration and staff to support school culture and climate initiatives.
