JOB SUMMARY
The Revenue Accounting Lead is responsible for overseeing the revenue accounting operations for natural gas sales and transportation activities. This includes ensuring accurate and timely recognition of revenue compliance with GAAP and industry standards supervision of junior staff and collaboration with cross-functional teams such as marketing operations and regulatory. The Lead will play a key role in month-end close processes financial reporting and internal/external audits.
This individual may lead communication projects to improve efficiency coach junior team members and navigate complex challenges. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Typical job responsibilities of the Revenue Accounting Lead include:
- Revenue Recognition & Analysis:
- Prepare review and approve journal entries related to natural gas sales imbalances and transportation revenue.
- Ensure proper revenue recognition under ASC 606 (Revenue from Contracts with Customers) and applicable regulatory guidance.
- Monitor revenue trends and investigate variances between actual and forecasted results.
- Administer the monthly Revenue Distribution process
Contract Review & System Integration:
- Collaborate with the commercial team to understand terms of gas sales and transportation contracts.
- Translate contract terms into system configurations for automated revenue calculation.
- Maintain and improve revenue-related modules in ERP or ETRM (Energy Trading & Risk Management) systems.
- Tracking midstream costs and ensuring compliance with contracts
- Responsible for preparing reviewing and issuing settlements with midstream business
Monthly Close Process:
- Oversee the monthly revenue close cycle including accruals reconciliations and variance analysis.
- Prepare revenue reports and supporting schedules for internal and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate with marketing and operations to validate sales volumes and pricing.
Compliance & Audit Support:
- Ensure compliance with SOX controls FERC reporting requirements and internal policies.
- Assist in the external and internal audit processes by providing support for journal entries balance sheet reconciliations fluctuation analysis etc.
- Assist in detailed explanations in response to complex owner questions and inquiries about account balances and payment
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP particularly ASC 606.
- Familiarity with ETRM systems (e.g. Quorum Allegro SAP PRA) and general ERP systems (e.g. SAP Oracle Enertia).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and job-related applications. Uses understanding of digital concepts to create basic digital tools.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field is required.
- CPA or progress toward CPA preferred.
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience with at least 2 years in revenue accounting in the energy sector.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS
- Position is located in Denver Colorado (preferred) at BKVs corporate headquarters.
- Secondary locations: Houston or Ft. Worth to be considered as well.
- Some Travel up to 10% may be required.
