About the Team
The Canada Enterprise Risk Management (Canada ERM) team is an independent and second line of defense function supporting the Canada Chief Risk Officer (CRO) to ensure Capital One Canadas (the Branch) risk management activities and processes are aligned with regulatory expectations and Capital Ones risk management programs.
Under the direction and guidance from the Deputy CRO the Senior Manager Canada ERM will be responsible for leading activities that support the effective challenge monitoring aggregation and reporting of risks applicable to the Branch.
About the Role
Success in this position will rely heavily on working well with ERM program leads and the Branch leadership. This role requires core strengths in Job-Specific Skills Influence Problem Solving Results Focus Communication and Teamwork. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with senior leaders and enterprise-wide stakeholders a demonstrated ability to manage complex processes and projects through a customer-focused risk lens and an ability to assess and make improvements to the effectiveness of these processes and related strategies. As urgent requests arise the ideal candidate will be required to review assess and consult with key stakeholders and rationalize gaps with a short turnaround. An attention to detail and commitment to collaboration and teamwork is required while also having a strong ability to influence in driving results through change. .
Your Responsibilities:
Leading and facilitating risk deep dive discussions with Canada risk stewards to effectively challenge assess and report on key risks impacting the Branch
Preparing the Canada Risk Profile reporting for the Canada Risk Committee and other presentations for the senior leadership team
Reviewing and providing effective challenge on Strategic risks through formal risk assessment activities including RCSA Launch initiatives and Product Risk Assessments (PRAs)
In coordination with Legal and/or Compliance partners act as trusted advisor to support the business through implementation of certain regulatory requirements (i.e. Culture risk management)
Partnering with ERM program leads to ensure appropriate line of sight to downstream activities impacting Canada
Collaborating with and influencing stakeholders across Canada and the Enterprise (first and second line of defense) to ensure effective risk management and drive results
Guiding and educating business partners on Enterprise risk program requirements (i.e. controls issues and events)
Driving best-in-class execution with a proactive focus on the quality accuracy and timeliness of deliverables
Participating in leading and/or executing cross-functional risk management initiatives impacting the team department and/or the Branch
Proactively monitoring the external environment and regulatory landscape to identify impacts emerging risk themes and trends
Continuously upgrading skills and keeping informed of compliance regulatory and policy changes through ongoing completion of education programs attending seminars and training sessions provided internally and externally
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors degree
10 years of experience working in a regulated financial services organization (preferably in retail lending such as credit cards)
10 years of risk management and/or compliance experience
10 years of experience working in a complex operational environment
Experience with responding to and interacting with internal audit and/or regulators (e.g. OSFI OPC FCAC) and knowledge of regulations and risk management practices and principles
Knowledge of ISO 31000 and COSO ERM framework
Experience in the application of foundational risk management activities including risk identification controls/issues and events management assessment and reporting
Experience in preparing and writing business documents (e.g. presentations for leadership meetings or forums briefing memos or policy write-ups)
Strong communication (written and oral) skills and strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills; required frequent contacts with senior executives
The ability to organize prioritize and manage multiple projects and deliverables
Ability to manage well under pressure and tight deadlines; works well with changing priorities in a dynamic small team environment
Preferred Qualifications:
5 years of experience working in risk management and/or governance standards and processes (senior management and/or board level)
At least 1 year of experience using Google Suite of products (Slides Docs Sheets Gmail Forms Drive Sites)
Additional relevant certification or accreditation in Compliance Risk Management Legal or other related fields
