Position Summary
The NAGPRA Coordinator will assist the team in the Research Laboratories of Archaeology to ensure institutional compliance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act ( NAGPRA 25 U.S.C. 3001-13). This role involves coordinating the identification documentation and repatriation of Ancestral human remains and cultural items as well as the synthesis of information to share with Tribes and the National NAGPRA Program for consultation and reporting requirements.
Required Qualifications Competencies And Experience
The successful candidate will be committed to the RLAs mission as it relates to NAGPRA compliance be self-motivated organized and possess exceptional attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to work independently and meet deadlines for multiple ongoing projects; will have a demonstrated understanding of NAGPRA and its accompanying regulations (43 C.F.R. 10.1-.17); experience in archaeological collections management (inventory accessioning cataloging); and will possess strong communication skills excellent writing skills and computer literacy including demonstrated experience working with Microsoft Office software (including MS Access and Excel) and editing .pdf documents with Adobe Acrobat. Occasional weekend work and overnight travel.
Preferred Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Experience working with legacy collections recovered from sites in the southeastern United States Experience working with Tribal Nations on NAGPRA consultations
Work Schedule
Monday-Friday 8:00-4:30 Occasional weekend work and overnight travel.
