Job Description

  • Maintains familiarity with legal issues involved with various aspects necessary to the operation of all Divisions within the Cooperative Arkansas Electric Cooperatives Inc. (AECI) or its subsidiaries with particular focus on regulatory and compliance matters.
  • Under supervision of General Counsel and Associate General Counsel(s) drafts documents performs research and provides advice to appropriate Cooperative personnel.
  • Assists as directed with governance and subsidiary management.
  • Maintains Familiarity with Arkansas Public Service Commission laws rules and regulations.
  • Prepares pleadings and represents AECC at administrative hearings in association with General Counsel and Associate General Counsel(s).
  • Assists as directed with legal advice and support related to compliance and regulatory efforts (both State and Federal) land management fiber/broadband and utility financing.
  • Provides upon request legal advice and transactional support to other Divisions within the Cooperative AECI and its subsidiaries.
  • As directed provides informational or substantive legal assistance to the Members Cooperative through their general managers staff or legal counsel.
  • Assists as directed in conducting litigation on behalf of AECC and AECI or monitoring the conduct of such litigation by outside legal counsel.
  • Represents whenever appropriate the General Counsel at meetings with other organizations or at legal proceedings involving the Cooperative.
  • Due to our obligation to provide continuous reliable electric service to our customers the ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance and the ability to work outside your regularly scheduled office hours when necessary is an essential function of the job.
  • The ability to handle stress and work well with others are essential functions of this position.
  • Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship now or at any time in the future.

Minimum Qualifications

Juris Doctorate 0-2. Preferred candidates should have experience and familiarity working in the utility or energy industry.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS

Licensed to practice law in Arkansas or capability to become licensed in Arkansas within one (1) year of hire date.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

JD degree from accredited US law school with excellent academic credentials.

Ability to learn the utility industry including regulatory agencies lending institutions transactional and other legal disciplines.

Effective personal skills to produce good working relationships with people in many situations.

Ability to express oneself clearly both verbally and in writing.

Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

Must possess basic working knowledge of document drafting the legislative process business law and administrative law.

This position may be eligible for remote work consistent with Cooperative Teleworking Management Guidelines but must be able to work at the Little Rock office as needed.
