Australian Family Partnership Program Family Partnership Worker (FPW)

Salary $80000 p.a.

Full-time or Part-time Monday to Friday 9am 5pm

Indigenous Women Only

Winnunga considers that being Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under s 42 of the Discrimination Act 1991 (ACT).

The Australian Family Partnership Program (AFPP) is based on an established model of home visiting. The program works by having specially trained Nurses and Indigenous Family Partnership Workers (FPW) regularly visit first-time mums-to-be starting early in pregnancy and continuing through to the childs second birthday. The program is an Australian Government initiative to improve the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and Winnunga is the provider of the program in the ACT.

Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health & Community Services is Canberras only Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service. Located in the heart of Canberra in Narrabundah we provide trusted holistic healthcare to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities of the ACT and surrounding areas.

About The Role:

Deliver culturally-safe home visits to women who are eligible for AFPP alongside the Nurse home visitors and other FPWs

Be a cultural mentor and guide to non-indigenous team members

Build relationships with clients based on trust and respect

Actively participate in program education reflective supervision team meetings program meetings

Facilitate and plan weekly group sessions focusing on child development maternal well-being and cultural connection

Help facilitate clients to identify goals and develop strategies by focusing on the 5 client-centred principles:

Assist with the integration of the program in the community

Work collaboratively with other Winnunga Nimmityjah teams and external stakeholders.

Ideal Candidate

  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (with a Confirmation of Aboriginality or ability to obtain one)
  • Ability to build positive relationships
  • Good learner listen observe attend training and build your understanding of how the program works
  • Great communicator (verbal and written) including in culturally sensitive ways
  • Works collaboratively within a team adhering to established processes
  • Strong interest in the wellbeing of clients
  • Shows tolerance compassion encouragement and empowerment
  • Have parenting experience/ experience with children 0 2 years
  • Maintain a culturally safe work environment

Desirable:

  • Demonstrated experience in working effectively with Aboriginal community members families and young children
