The Stakeholder and Community Relations Office develops best -in-class communications science education government relations and community involvement programs that advance the science and science education missions of the Laboratory contribute to the public understanding of science enhance the value of the Lab as a community asset and ensure that Laboratory internal and external stakeholders are properly informed and have a voice in Lab decisions of interest and importance to them.
As part of the Stakeholder and Community Relations Office the Office of Workforce Development & Science Education (WDSE) mission is to design develop implement and facilitate Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) workforce development and education initiatives that support the scientific mission at Brookhaven National Laboratory and the Department of Energy.
The Sr. Administrative Services Assistant will be responsible for performing a variety of specialized complex duties within an assigned administrative functional area. Works independently within established procedures and is required to handle non-routine office matters on a daily basis. Has a wide variety of contacts within and outside the Laboratory and may act as primary contact in assigned administrative functions. Responsible for organizing and managing travel arrangements. Ensures all travel is booked efficiently cost-effectively and in compliance with travel policies. May direct the work of other support personnel.
Must possess comprehensive knowledge of one or more specific areas of Laboratory operations policies and procedures and demonstrated proficiency in assigned administrative functions.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Requires some form of secretarial or office administration training plus (6) six years of relevant experience that provides evidence of the abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position. An Associates or Bachelors or Bachelors degree in a relevant field (business computer technology or database management) may offset qualifying experience as would an associates degree (2:1 basis (college:experience).
Must possess strong organizational decision-making excellent communication oral and written with strong interpersonal skills as job involves extensive customer service-type interaction with BNL research and support staff students parents teachers faculty administrators and external business contacts.
Professional demeanor with a high degree of attention to confidentiality.
Ability to work independently within established procedures and guidelines.
Good judgement and ability to discriminate issues within purview and those requiring program manager attention.
Ability to work in a fast-paced office with quickly changing priorities.
Demonstrated mastery of MS Office suite including writing and editing complex letters and memos and manipulating and analyzing spreadsheets.
May occasionally require the ability to support off-site functions during non-normal working hours.
Preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Experience in a customer-service environment.
Skills in answering telephone requests.
A thorough knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply Laboratory policies and procedures particularly those related to the Office of Workforce Development & Science Education.
Proficiency with BNL business computing systems such as PeopleSoft Financials and HR.
Experience in issuing Laboratory appointments and the check-in process which requires a clear understanding of acceptable working documentation personal identifiable information (PII) and all supporting documents associated with hosting students and faculty for research experiences.
Ability to support document development and production of reports and program information briefs.
Other Information:
Some occasional after hours and weekend work is expected.

This is a fully onsite position located at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton NY.
Brookhaven National Laboratory is committed to providing fair equitable and competitive compensation. The full salary range for this position is $57150 - $65000 / year. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidates qualification education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
