The Team Lead-Lab Support Services functions as an interdisciplinary team member that performs a wide range of services in the clinic and hospital-based laboratories. Assists the Lab Support Services Supervisor in providing technical and leadership support in assigned lab area such as phlebotomy specimen collections central processing and/or lab call center. Performs sample collections specimen processing call center duties scheduling functions desk duties and other job-related duties as assigned. Orients and trains new staff other allied health staff or students. Assures that age-appropriate care is delivered for population served. Provides technical direction and assistance workflow coordination troubleshooting and problem resolution. Assists in educational development of staff in maintaining training files and assists in the completion of annual competencies for work unit. Assists with personnel issues that arise in daily operations. Assists with the development implementation and review of training content standard operating procedures workflow changes and research protocols. Coordinates and sets priorities for collections completion of assignments processing receipt and tracking of specimens and workflows. Develops designs and monitors logs for tracking purposes. Assists with auditing all lab support services staff performance and training daily and monthly. Maintains and stocks supply inventory and uses from several applications/sources for ordering. Assists with quality management data analysis regulatory compliance and implementing new services. Demonstrates leadership skills and must be able to work independently as well as a team environment. Must use critical thinking skills and ensure that all services are in strict adherence to established directions and guidelines in SOPs. Performs duties in a professional and ethical manner and employs professional conduct and appearance in the performance of duties. Develops/uses proper professional communication skills with staff patients and families as well as proper technique and etiquette for answering the telephone and providing information. Must be fluent in multiple computer systems and applications. The individual must demonstrate confidentiality and trustworthiness as well as deal effectively with people in stressful situations.
High School diploma or GED required.
Phlebotomy or medical assisting certification from a nationally recognized organization such as ASCP AMT or NCA is required.
Minimum of 4 years of clinical lab experience such as phlebotomy specimen processing medical assisting or combination thereof or an Associates degree in related science and 2 years of clinical lab experience.
Must exhibit excellent organizational communication critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities. Strong multi-tasking skills and attention to detail. Must be comfortable confidently and professionally directing the workflow of a large and diverse team. Prior leadership experience is preferred. Must have computer medical terminology and prior experience in clinical laboratory environment. Must have effective oral written listening and coaching skills. Must be flexible to scheduling or workflow changes due to operational needs.
