Essential Function:This position is accountable for planning and providing for appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in a variety of settings but particularly in an inclusive setting. The teacher is responsible for creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment such that students benefit from the general education curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supported with supplemental aids accommodations and other needed Description: Follow Federal and state regulations and district procedures for special education and the Americans with Disabilities Act meet timelines and ensure a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). Provide direct and indirect instructional supports to students in order for the student to make meaningful progress based on their unique circumstances. Employ specialized instructional methodologies and techniques to support access to curriculum and documented progress. Prepare and adapt lessons to meet the needs of the students. Modify content methodologies and performance expectations as required for a student with disabilities to access curriculum and the school environment. Conduct educational assessments and write evaluation reports that meet the federal and state requirements. Participate in the team process and eligibility determinations for special education Schedule and chair annual review meetings. Develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and implement services outlined in the IEP. Create measurable goals with objectives/benchmarks and maintain data to support achievement towards meeting the goals and objectives/benchmarks. Determine need for extended school year services through ongoing data collection that measures regression/recoupment following breaks in service during the school year. Write quarterly progress reports for IEP goals that are data based on student performance Collaborate with team members general education teachers related service providers regarding the delivery of services and IEP development. Assist general educators to adapt curriculum materials and teaching techniques to meet the needs of students with disabilities. Communicate with parents/guardians to discuss student progress. Supervise and direct paraprofessionals Effectively work with a team of professionals to coordinate services. Other duties may be assigned. Requirements: MA DESE Teaching License: 5-12 or N-9 Moderate Special Needs license is required Successful candidates will hold a Masters Degree in special education from an accredited college or university preferred Preference given to qualified candidates holding Dual DESE certifications: Moderate Special Needs along with a Math or English license. Experience and training in various specialized reading curriculums (OG Wilson LIPs etc) Strong knowledge and understanding of the special education process and state & federal regulations. Experience in modifying and adapting curriculum to assure students can access the curriculum. Ability to effectively consult and work collaboratively with various service providers and support staff. Solid organizational skills. Experience with IEP development is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred
