Respiratory Therapist Job Responsibilities:
- Administers advanced respiratory therapeutic interventions (e.g. heliox nitric oxide CNB Chest Wall Oscillation etc.).
- Establishes and manages basic mechanical ventilation with commonly used ventilators with high proficiency and minimal-to-no-supervision. Moderate-to-frequent use of more complex forms of mechanical ventilation (e.g. HFO NPPV PRVC transport) with proficiency and occasional supervision.
- Formulates a sound plan-of-care for patients based on diagnostics data response-to-therapy and the physiologic profile. Routinely refines the ventilator care plan and communicates to the patient care team. Educates and trains patients and/or family members.
- Performs basic clinical assessments of the cardiopulmonary system. Occasionally performs more thorough advanced cardiopulmonary clinical assessments with appropriate inclusion of other systems (e.g. cardiovascular nutritional neurologic etc.).
- Performs weaning mechanic with high proficiency.
- Meets Clinical Ladder core requirement criteria. Documents according to protocols and/or charting templates.
- Supports the advancement of the respiratory care profession by participating in one system hospital department or professional initiative. Takes an active and positive role in training educating and orienting team members and students.
Respiratory Therapist (RT) 1 Requirements:
- Work Schedule: 12-hour night shifts 7 p.m. 7 a.m.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited CoARC (The Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) respiratory care program
- Certification: Certified Respiratory Therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) and eligible to sit for the NBRCAP. Basic Life Support from American Heart Association.
- Licensure: RT License and eligible to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia
Respiratory Therapist (RT) 2 Requirements:
- Work Schedule: 12-hour night shifts 7 p.m. 7 a.m.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited CoARC (Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) respiratory care program
- Experience: Six months in a critical care environment or one or more years of specialized training in advanced diagnostics/pulmonary rehab as a practicing respiratory therapist.
- Certification: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) OR more than 10 years of experience as a Certified Respiratory Therapist as defined by the NBRC. Basic Life Support from American Heart Association. Advanced Certifications (ACLS PALS or NRP) must be obtained within one year from date of hire.
- Licensure: RT License and eligible to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia
Respiratory Therapist (RT) 3 Requirements:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited CoARC (Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) respiratory care program
- Experience: Two years in a critical care environment
- Certification: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) AND one of the following advanced certifications (ACLS PALS or NRP). OR advanced credential (ACCS AEC NPS RPFT CPFT or SDS) OR a relevant bachelors degree. Basic Life Support from American Heart Association.
- Licensure: RT License and eligible to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia
