Job Description
*** SEASONAL INTERNSHIP (8-12 WEEKS) WITH THE POTENTIAL OF FULL TIME WORK ONCE COMPLETED! ALL TOOLS WILL BE SUPPLIED. ***
Program Goals:
Provide real-world experience in landfill operations environmental compliance and site safety.
Educate interns on landfill design permitting leachate management gas collection systems and equipment.
Foster interest in long-term careers in the waste management and environmental services industry.
Learning Objectives
Interns will:
- Understand daily landfill operations including material acceptance compaction and cover practices.
- Assist in monitoring environmental systems (e.g. groundwater wells landfill gas leachate).
- Learn regulatory requirements and participate in compliance inspections.
- Shadow operations support and supervisors to understand logistics and workflow.
- Gain insight into landfill expansion permitting and closure processes.
Key Activities & Projects
- Conduct daily site walks and document observations.
- Support environmental sampling and recordkeeping.
- Track tonnage material types and operational metrics.
- Work on a capstone project (e.g. improving recycling diversion gas capture analysis or community education).
- Attend team meetings and safety briefings.
Supervision & Mentorship
Interns will be supervised by the Landfill Operations Manager and mentored by a Safety or Environmental Compliance Officer.
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years old
- Interest in environmental regulations and willingness to work outdoors in variable conditions.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
