Job Summary
Responsible for police communications including receiving incoming calls dispatching emergency/non-emergency calls for service gather and disseminate information to officers as requested. Performs complex technical duties designed to expedite the administrative processes and procedures related to documenting maintaining and controlling police records case files statistics and information. Performs a variety of complex and confidential secretarial duties for the Midland College Police Department.
Essential Functions
Receives all incoming calls dispatching emergency/non-emergency calls for service Manages day-to-day office functions monitors workflow data accuracy and overall quality of the office Processes purchase orders payroll leave requests and travel requests for department personnel Ensures processes and procedures are accomplished according to established guidelines and regulations Makes recommendations for changes to the Chief of Police and implements the change upon approval Files types and scans reports Greets and assists students/visitors in a professional and courteous manner Responds to technical questions from the public and gives them necessary information Unlocks classroom and/or offices escorts students/employees jumpstarts a vehicle when needed Activates the campus emergency warning systems Performs other related duties as required

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to sit walk talk and hear; use hands to handle or operate objects tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms The person in this position frequently communicates with others verbally and electronically; must be able to exchange accurate information Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus Able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds Work is performed primarily in an office setting The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions Hours may vary according to the needs of the department Travel for training meetings and events both in and out of town may be required
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent Basic Telecommunicator Proficiency Certificate or obtainment of certificate within one year of employment Two years clerical or office experience and customer service experience Experience with Windows Microsoft Office Internet and E-mail Knowledge of modern office equipment computer information systems correspondence formats and composition Good communication and organizational skills Must be able to exercise initiative independent judgment and to act resourcefully under varying conditions Must maintain strict confidentiality related to sensitive administrative and legal information Must have a valid Texas Class C drivers license and must be insurable on Midland Colleges policy
Preferred Qualifications
Some college coursework in office administration/business/criminal justice Previous dispatch experience Knowledge of current methods and systems of bookkeeping filing and purchasing Knowledge of police radio and communication equipment
