Job Description

Director Equity and Inclusion Programming
National Underground Railroad Freedom Center Cincinnati OH
Reports to: VP Education and Interpretation
FLSA Status: Full-time Exempt
Salary: $65000.00
Position Overview:
The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center seeks an innovative and passionate leader to develop and execute engaging equity and inclusion educational programs. The Equity and Inclusion Programming Director will lead the development and implementation of the Freedom Centers Ignite: Equity and Inclusion programs. Ignite programming involves diversity equity and inclusion training and development programs directed at young adults (18-25) and professionals at all levels.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in equity and inclusion-related curricula design and development teaching small group facilitation and training program administration. Candidates should also be familiar with different learning styles generational learning strategies and social justice education.
The Director coordinates the delivery of professional development training opportunities for external clients and guests as it relates to diversity strategies and techniques for assessing and increasing course learning objectives assists in developing multi-cultural strategies for instruction participates in the implementation of these strategies and assists Freedom Center leaders with evaluating the effectiveness of equality and inclusion program initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Program Design Development & Implementation: Designs and develops curriculum for professional development and support in the areas of diversity equity and inclusion including interactive and thought-provoking programs that educate and engage young adults and professionals on contemporary social justice issues and deepen community awareness and understanding.
  • Curriculum & Resource Development: Create educational materials discussion guides and digital content that support program goals and themes and enhance learning.
  • Collaboration & Partnerships: Work closely with Freedom Center staff local universities advocacy groups educators activists and cultural institutions to develop partnerships that reflect diverse perspectives and ensure cross-sector programming that expands reach and impact.
  • Evaluation & Impact Assessment: Establish assessment tools to measure program effectiveness and participant engagement using data to refine and improve future initiatives.
  • Marketing & Outreach: Assist in developing marketing and communication strategies including social media and community outreach to promote programming and maximize participation.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelors or masters degree in education Museum Studies Social Justice Public Programming or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in program development young adult engagement or social justice education; training and facilitation including program coordination and delivery of professional development; or equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities.
  • Strong knowledge of social justice issues activism strategies and young adult leadership education and development.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and fostering inclusive accessible programming.
  • Excellent facilitation communication and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners.
  • Knowledge of grant writing and fundraising experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in digital engagement tools and social media platforms.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job the employee must regularly sit stand walk talk and hear; to use arms hands and fingers to handle or reach. The employee often must stand and walk. The employee must occasionally climb balance stoop kneel crouch crawl and climb stairs throughout the day. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
