FUNCTION: To assist the teacher in meeting the needs of children with developmental delays
or disabilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the supervision and instruction of individual children and groups of children.
- Assist in the sanitation and preparation of child-specific developmental learning areasincluding but not limited to the classroom play areas gymnasium equipment outdoor play structures and meal/snack areas.
- Assist in the feeding toileting physical care health needs and safety of all children.
- Assist in the application of child management procedures.
- Assist in recording and maintaining child performance data.
- Assist in the preparation of instructional and other materials.
- Perform organizational and clerical tasks as assigned.
- Communicate clearly and make independent decisions within established policies andprocedures.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Participate as an effective team member.
- Participate in professional growth activities.
- Comply with district rules and policies.
- Perform physical tasks unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodations.
- Perform job-related tasks as designated by the teacher.
- Carry out other related duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Under the direction of the classroom teacher assist children in reaching developmentalmilestones.
- Under the direction of the classroom teacher work with small groups of children toreinforce the classroom program.
- Perform clerical and record-keeping tasks necessary to support the documentationrequired by the program.
- Assist with the safe supervision of children.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:
- CDA AA degree or two years of full-time college preferred; or a passing score on theparaprofessional exam.
- Ability to organize and communicate effectively.
- Ability to follow directions and learn new procedures.
- Ability to provide care for childrens physical needs.
- Ability to consistently project a friendly and supportive attitude.
- Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid training certification.
- Obtain a food handlers permit.
- Ability to learn and follow delegable medical procedures.
- Proven work ethic.
- Successful completion of Oregon School-based fingerprinting and criminal historyverification as required by State of Oregon legislation.
- Successful completion of fingerprinting and approval with the Central BackgroundRegistry through the Early Learning Division.
