Job Description

Job Title: Lead Security Guard

Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt

Department: Assigned Campus (es)

Reports To: Chief of Police and Police Sergeant

Approved By: Board of Trustees

SUMMARY:

Responsible for the day to day operations for security officers assigned to their school district campuses and perform security officer duties and responsibilities with DISD jurisdiction.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

High School diploma or GED preferred

EXPERIENCE:

Two years experience in a supervisory capacity in the area of security preferred

CERTIFICATES LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS

Valid Texas drivers license

Security guard training or certification preferred.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • General knowledge of school policy and procedures report writing and criminal laws;
  • Training in subduing offenders including the use of handcuffs;
  • Ability to use two-way radio handcuffs alarm systems fire extinguishers and/or security equipment;
  • Ability to record information;
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students staff and the community;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form;
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student Management

  1. Cooperate with faculty by allowing entry to the buildings and grounds by authorized personnel i.e. coaches athletes fine arts coaches and participants etc.
  2. Monitor student behavior and enforce school rules related to student conduct vehicle operation and parking.
  3. Control traffic and parking.
  4. Resolve conflict or confrontation between students and report disturbances to supervisor and police department.

Security and Parking

  1. Patrol assigned routes walking or driving throughout the district buildings and grounds to prevent fires theft vandalism and illegal entries.
  2. Ensure that buildings and grounds are properly secured.
  3. Determine the purpose of any suspicious individuals found on premises.
  4. Stay alert and maintain constant vigil during entire shift.
  5. Assist with duly authorized public functions as required.
  6. Notify police fire department or other appropriate authority of any situation requiring immediate or prompt attention.
  1. Assist law enforcement personnel as needed.

Reports Records and Correspondence

  1. Prepare written reports and ensure thoroughness of information contained in all reports.
  2. Maintain log reflecting time visited and conditions found while patrolling assigned areas.

Other

  1. Maintain confidentiality;
  2. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance;
  3. Participate in meetings and special events as assigned;
  4. Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work meetings and appointments;
  5. Assist School District Police in the investigation of all complaints and accusations made against security staff;
  6. Evaluate job performance of assigned security staff;
  7. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police or immediate supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervise evening security personnel;

Assist in the supervision of students.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators teachers students parents and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts interest commissions proportions percentages area circumference and volume.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical diagram or schedule form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required.

While performing the duties of this job continuous walking standing and/or climbing is required. The employee must be able to operate a motor vehicle. Specific hearing and visual requirements are included. The employee must be able to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Work outdoors in varying conditions. Moderate to heavy lifting and carrying is required.

The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position requires working outdoors in varying climate conditions and driving in different areas of the district at odd hours. The employee may be subjected to adverse and hazardous working conditions including exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures.
