Director of Data
About the Role
We re seeking a Director of Data to lead our organization s data strategy governance and analytics initiatives. This role will oversee how data is collected managed and leveraged to drive business insights and innovation. The ideal candidate combines strategic vision with hands-on technical expertise ensuring data is a trusted and valuable asset across the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
Data Strategy & Leadership
Define and execute the organization s data strategy aligned with business goals.
Build and lead a high-performing data team (data engineers analysts scientists governance specialists).
Partner with executives and business units to identify opportunities for data-driven decision-making.
Data Governance & Quality
Establish policies for data governance security privacy and compliance (e.g. GDPR CCPA).
Ensure data integrity accessibility and reliability across all systems.
Define and enforce data standards taxonomies and metadata management.
Data Engineering & Architecture
Oversee the design and maintenance of scalable data platforms pipelines and architectures.
Ensure seamless integration of data from multiple sources (internal and external).
Evaluate and implement modern data technologies (e.g. cloud data warehouses lakehouses ETL tools).
Analytics & Insights
Enable advanced analytics business intelligence and AI/ML initiatives.
Partner with business stakeholders to develop self-service analytics capabilities.
Drive a data-driven culture across the organization through education and enablement.
Vendor & Technology Management
Select and manage relationships with key data platform vendors.
Stay informed on emerging data technologies and trends to keep the organization ahead.
Qualifications
Master s degree in Computer Science Data Science Engineering or a related field (PhD a plus).
10 years of experience in data management analytics or engineering with at least 5 years in leadership roles. Leading large teams 30 FTE and external resorces
Proven experience in building and scaling enterprise data platforms (cloud data warehouses like Snowflake BigQuery Databricks etc.).
Strong understanding of data governance security and compliance frameworks.
Familiarity with machine learning AI and predictive analytics concepts.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
Track record of hiring mentoring and retaining top data talent.
Preferred Skills
Experience in industry e.g. finance healthcare e-commerce data ecosystems.
Knowledge of data product management principles.
Hands-on coding experience in SQL Python or similar languages (even if not day-to-day).
Familiarity with modern data stack tools (e.g. dbt Airflow Looker Tableau Power BI).
Fluency in Dutch
