Our team consists of licensed Professional Engineers (PE) certified Project Management Professionals (PMP) certified professional with Design Build Institute of America (DBIA) licensed General Building Contractor and other industry designations. We can provide entitlement development design procurement construction management project management expert witness and litigation support services on a variety of building types. Our experienced team have provided these services to successfully deliver various facilities for public school districts college districts universities commercial developers hospitality owners multinational CM/PM consultants and other valued clients.

This is a full-time position with Los Angeles Unified School District. The ideal candidate for the Design Manager A/E M&O role is an experienced design and project management professional with at least eight years of experience in facilities design or capital project coordination including at least four years working on educational or public agency projects. This individual excels in overseeing the architectural and engineering design process from conception through completion ensuring all projects align with program requirements budgets environmental considerations and legal standards. They are skilled at managing multiple projects simultaneously coordinating with architects consultants and district personnel to meet strict timelines and quality standards. The ideal candidate is adept at guiding design professionals reviewing and approving design changes and maintaining compliance with district guidelines and educational facility standards. A bachelors degree in architecture or engineering is required and professional licensure as a California Architect or Professional Engineer is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manages develops and coordinates the districts design process for the A&E Services to ensure that plans are within functional program budgetary environmental and legal requirements
  • Manages multiple projects including engineering repair and critical repair through interaction with Architects consultants and District personnel to ensure timely completion of these projects
  • Oversees the building design process to ensure compliance with LAUSDs standards and guidelines for the district by working with design professionals and various District administrators to ensure that new and modernized structures meet both educational and building standards requirements
  • Establishes and follows a process to identify and select the architectural firm best suited for each project based on the firms qualifications and ability to meet performance standards
  • Provides Architects with clear and consistent direction regarding goals and objectives standards site schedule and budget for each project
  • Establishes and follows an effective and efficient design review process to ensure that the design meets the overall goals and objectives for each project
  • Provides maximum value for dollars budgeted and are appropriate and enduring to meet the functional needs of the district the local community and the environment
  • Reviews design changes to ensure project remains within budget
  • Monitors project planning and design status to report findings recommendations and updates
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years full time paid professional experience managing the facilities design or the planning and coordination of capital projects that included the overall design contract administration cost estimating and scheduling activities
  • 4 years of this experience must be with the design planning and construction of educational facilities or similar public agencies

Required Education:

  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelors degree in architecture or engineering

Preferred Licenses and Certificates:

  • A valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect by the California State Architectural Board or Professional Engineer by the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors
