Cloud Software Engineer - Connected Device Platform
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Cloud Software Engineer to join our platform team working on our custom-built AWS platform that manages multiple connected device types. This role offers excellent learning opportunities in cloud platform development working closely with senior engineers on cutting-edge solutions that integrate MQTT device communication mobile applications with WebSocket and API integrations and voice assistant platforms including Google Assistant and Alexa.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Development & Integration
- Develop and maintain our custom AWS platform supporting multiple connected device types
- Implement and optimize MQTT messaging protocols for reliable device-to-cloud communication
- Build and enhance WebSocket APIs using AWS API Gateway for real-time mobile app integration
- Create and maintain RESTful APIs for mobile application connectivity and third-party integrations
- Support platform scalability initiatives and performance optimization across multiple AWS services
Voice Assistant & Mobile Integration
- Develop integrations with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa for voice-controlled device functionality
- Build and maintain mobile application backend services with WebSocket and API connectivity
- Implement authentication and authorization workflows for mobile and voice applications
- Create and maintain API documentation and integration guides for development teams
- Support real-time communication features between mobile apps and connected devices
Cloud Infrastructure & Authentication
- Work with AWS services including Lambda API Gateway DynamoDB IoT Core and CloudFormation
- Implement and maintain secure authentication systems and single sign-on (SSO) solutions
- Support infrastructure as code (IaC) practices using CloudFormation or Terraform
- Monitor platform health performance metrics and troubleshoot integration issues
- Collaborate on automated deployment pipelines and CI/CD processes
Required Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Software Engineering or related field
- Programming experience in languages commonly used with AWS (Python Java or C#)
- Basic understanding of cloud computing concepts and RESTful API development
- Familiarity with database concepts (SQL or NoSQL)
- Knowledge of software testing methodologies and debugging techniques
- Understanding of networking fundamentals and web technologies
Desired Experience
- Knowledge of AWS IoT services (Core Device Management Fleet Provisioning) or other cloud platform integration
- Understanding of Wi-Fi protocols (802.11 standards) and connectivity standards (WPA/WPA2/WPA3 mesh networking)
- Experience with MQTT protocol or other IoT messaging systems
- Exposure to WebSocket APIs and real-time communication technologies
- Experience with Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa platform integration on AWS
- Knowledge of OKTA or other identity management solutions for SSO and authentication
- Familiarity with mobile app backend development and API design
- Experience with version control systems (Git) and agile development practices

Reporting Structure
This position reports to Senior Platform Engineers and will receive mentorship and technical guidance for professional development in cloud platform engineering.
