Job Description

OCU Digital are looking for an experienced Data Apps & Analytics Engineer to join the team in Preston. The Data Apps & Analytics Engineer is responsible for the development and delivery of tools that allow business users to easily and securely maintain new data assets.

You will be involved in the full lifecycle of these applications and their integration with the Data Platform as well as developing analytics and Data Products for both the application and other use cases within the Data Platform.

Ideally you will come from an analytical data engineering or app development background but must be able to develop these applications and supporting analytics whilst following best practices for an application lifecycle with a strong emphasis on version control iterative development processes and Product Backlog management.

About the role

The Data Apps & Analytics Engineer is responsible for the development and delivery of tools that allow business users to easily and securely maintain new data assets.

You will be involved in the full lifecycle of these applications and their integration with the Data Platform as well as developing analytics and Data Products for both the application and other use cases within the Data Platform.

The ideal candidate may come from an analytical data engineering or app development background but must be able to develop these applications and supporting analytics whilst following best practices for an application lifecycle with a strong emphasis on version control iterative development processes and Product Backlog management

Your responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Head of Data Engineering & Analytics to design a robust development and delivery process for Data Apps
  • Work closely with business users to identify requirements that fit the scope of Data Apps and design appropriate solutions and transforming this into the Product Backlog
  • Monitor adoption usage and platform performance to inform continuous improvement
  • Implementing CI/CD processes for Data Apps and their supporting artifacts
  • Building Data Products from Data Apps and the Data Platform (including Dimensional Modelling structures Semantic Models and Reports / Dashboards)

What you will need to be successful:

  • Proven experience in delivering Data Apps in either a low-code environment (e.g. Power Apps) or via Web App tools / frameworks (e.g. Python Javascript)
  • Good understanding of source control tools (such as Git) and application lifecycle and Continuous Integration / Deployment processes (CI/CD)
  • Proven experience developing and delivering interactive Analytics capabilities via tools such as Power BI or Tableau
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to understand end-user requirements to produce and maintain a Product Backlog
  • Good understanding of structural database / data set design and architecture for use in low-code applications (such as Dataverse or SQL Server)
  • Ideally knowledge of Agile Development Methodologies (e.g. Scrum)
