Our client is an international company operating in the iGaming industry. With a focus on developing innovative software solutions they maintain a strong presence in the online gaming sector.

They are currently looking for a Legal & Privacy Counsel to join their team in Malta. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and developing the companys privacy and data protection framework across multiple jurisdictions while also providing general legal support to the Legal & Compliance team.

Location: On-site (flexible) - Saint Julians

Responsibilities:

As a Legal and Data Protection Counsel your broad responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure compliance with data protection and privacy laws across all jurisdictions in which our client operates
  • Develop and maintain internal frameworks policies and procedures related to data protection
  • Monitor compliance with existing privacy policies
  • Stay up to date on developments in data protection legislation best practices and regulatory guidance
  • Conduct internal audits and reviews as needed
  • Advise the business on privacy and data protection matters
  • Ensure lawful data processing and maintain proper legal bases for all data activities
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs)
  • Collaborate on new projects to ensure privacy by design principles are implemented
  • Draft update and maintain external-facing privacy documentation such as privacy and cookie policies
  • Update internal documentation including HR policies related to data protection
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure appropriate security and encryption of personal data
  • Maintain records of processing activities and data mapping documentation
  • Organise and deliver GDPR training for employees keeping records of attendance
  • Handle Data Subject Requests and ensure timely responses
  • Manage the data breach notification process including reports to authorities and affected individuals where necessary
  • Act as the main point of contact for Data Protection Authorities and other relevant regulatory bodies
  • Draft and manage Data Processing Agreements (DPAs)
  • Review third-party contracts to ensure proper data governance
  • Ensure lawful transfer and processing of personal data outside the EU/EEA
  • Oversee implementation of data retention and deletion procedures
  • Serve as Data Protection Officer or other equivalent roles as required
  • Provide legal advice and support across a range of matters
  • Assist with additional tasks within the Legal & Compliance function as needed
    • Requirements:

    • A degree (MQF Level 6 or higher) in Law Privacy Information Security or a related field
    • Strong knowledge and practical experience with European data protection laws
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
    • Experience in the online gaming sector is considered a strong asset
    • Skilled in drafting legal and policy documentation
    • Able to work independently manage deadlines and prioritise effectively
    • Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking
    • Proficient with standard office and legal software
    • Professional adaptable and able to communicate with stakeholders at all levels
