Our client is an international company operating in the iGaming industry. With a focus on developing innovative software solutions they maintain a strong presence in the online gaming sector.
They are currently looking for a Legal & Privacy Counsel to join their team in Malta. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and developing the companys privacy and data protection framework across multiple jurisdictions while also providing general legal support to the Legal & Compliance team.
Location: On-site (flexible) - Saint Julians
Responsibilities:
As a Legal and Data Protection Counsel your broad responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Ensure compliance with data protection and privacy laws across all jurisdictions in which our client operatesDevelop and maintain internal frameworks policies and procedures related to data protectionMonitor compliance with existing privacy policiesStay up to date on developments in data protection legislation best practices and regulatory guidanceConduct internal audits and reviews as neededAdvise the business on privacy and data protection mattersEnsure lawful data processing and maintain proper legal bases for all data activitiesAssist in drafting and reviewing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs)Collaborate on new projects to ensure privacy by design principles are implementedDraft update and maintain external-facing privacy documentation such as privacy and cookie policiesUpdate internal documentation including HR policies related to data protectionCoordinate with internal teams to ensure appropriate security and encryption of personal dataMaintain records of processing activities and data mapping documentationOrganise and deliver GDPR training for employees keeping records of attendanceHandle Data Subject Requests and ensure timely responsesManage the data breach notification process including reports to authorities and affected individuals where necessaryAct as the main point of contact for Data Protection Authorities and other relevant regulatory bodiesDraft and manage Data Processing Agreements (DPAs)Review third-party contracts to ensure proper data governanceEnsure lawful transfer and processing of personal data outside the EU/EEAOversee implementation of data retention and deletion proceduresServe as Data Protection Officer or other equivalent roles as requiredProvide legal advice and support across a range of mattersAssist with additional tasks within the Legal & Compliance function as neededRequirements:
A degree (MQF Level 6 or higher) in Law Privacy Information Security or a related fieldStrong knowledge and practical experience with European data protection lawsExcellent written and verbal communication skills in EnglishExperience in the online gaming sector is considered a strong assetSkilled in drafting legal and policy documentationAble to work independently manage deadlines and prioritise effectivelyStrong attention to detail and analytical thinkingProficient with standard office and legal softwareProfessional adaptable and able to communicate with stakeholders at all levels
