Job Description
York School Department Literacy Specialist Description: The York School Department is seeking an experienced teacher leader to serve as a Literacy Specialist at school starting in August 2025. The Literacy Specialist will support staff in the implementation of Yorks literacy programming by collaborating with teachers on evidence-based best practices to support students in their classroom while also providing direct student intervention and support. The Specialist will focus on enhancing teachers ability to provide instruction that builds students sense of engagement and will work with administrators and teachers to collect analyze and interpret data to support instructional Work with teachers and administrators to identify students who may benefit from intervention programming. Work directly with students targeted for intervention. Support professional staff to identify appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement for all students. Provide strategic guidance to professional staff by sharing resources demonstrating effective instructional approaches and modeling evidence-based best practices. Participate in collaborative grade level content area and data team meetings to assist in the analysis and utilization of assessment data to improve focus of instructional planning. Deliver measurable results on improving student performance for students receiving intervention. Collaborate with building administrators grade level and content area teams in setting goals for improved instruction and MTSS implementation and regularly meet to review benchmarks and established data points to assess student progress toward established instructional with school leaders to implement instructional vision and strategic goal-setting at the school-level. Assist the district with constructing formal and informal assessment systems that show student progress and can be used to target specific areas for growth. Stay up to date with current research and State literacy initiatives attend professional development and support job-embedded professional learning. Qualifications The candidate must have a valid Maine Literacy Specialist certification (092).
