Primary Purpose:
This intern position will serve as a part-time role within the Communications and Marketing department. The primary responsibilities will include assisting with a variety of communications branding and public relations tasks to support internal and external initiatives. This position will provide opportunities to develop practical skills in content creation media relations digital marketing and visual communication while gaining insight into the strategic communications processes of a regional education service center. The intern will collaborate with the Communications team to help execute campaigns manage social media draft written materials and support events.
This is a part-time position consisting of up to 19.5 hours per week. Hours during the fall and spring semesters will be flexible to accommodate a students academic schedule. We are seeking currently enrolled students at West Texas A&M University or Amarillo College or students who have recently graduated.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
- A high school diploma or GED is required
- Must be currently pursuing an Associate or Bachelors degree in communications marketing journalism public relations or a related field through Amarillo College or West Texas A&M University
Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Basic knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook Instagram X/Twitter LinkedIn)
- Familiarity with design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite Canva or similar tools required
- Ability to work collaboratively and meet deadlines
- Attention to detail and a willingness to learn
- Photography or videography skills a plus
- Must possess strong organizational skills be self-directed and have keen attention to detail
- Must be service oriented and able to work with individuals to meet their varying needs
- Effective in the areas of communication and collaboration required
- Demonstrated ability to use a wide variety of technology applications
- Samples of work or portfolio should be provided in application. If selected for an
interview candidates will be asked to prepare materials for an assigned task showing
execution of communication and/or graphic/video design skills.
Working Conditions:
- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer phone and camera equipment

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assists the Coordinator to manage the development and maintenance of electronic communications including but not limited to newsletters videos e-newsletters and the Region 16 websites
- Create engaging social media posts and monitor engagement across platforms
- Coordinates with other communications staff to produce digital and print materials for marketing flyers and support materials
- Capture and edit photos and short videos for use in digital and print materials
- Assist with internal communications including updates for staff newsletters or intranet content
- Participate in brainstorming sessions for marketing campaigns video storyboards and brand messaging
- Help maintain and organize digital media archives including photos video footage and branded templates
- Maintains a functioning cell phone and is accessible through this phone as deemed appropriate by the service area director. A functioning cell phone means that it is charged activated messages checked and mailbox emptied regularly
- Reports for work ready to perform responsibilities
- Performs duties that directly and/or indirectly impact student performance in Region
- Maintains a professional level of confidentiality regarding all ESC matters
- Supports the mission goals and objectives of the ESC strategic plan
- Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the ESC safety program
- Performs professional responsibilities as required by ESC policies processes and procedures
- Manages time calendar and job responsibilities to meet deadline
- Meets proficiency levels of required technology skills as outlined by supervisor
- Incorporates appropriate technology in daily work and exhibits continual growth in technologies as outlined by supervisor
