We are seeking a Director of Lab Operations to lead high-volume clinical laboratory operations at our DeLand FL location. This is a pivotal leadership role ideal for a dynamic and experienced healthcare lab professional who thrives in a fast-paced results-driven environment and has a passion for people leadership and operational excellence.
As Director of Lab Operations you will be responsible for managing the daily technical and scientific operations of a high-complexity clinical laboratory that processes over 100000 tests per day. Reporting directly to the VP of Lab Operations you will be accountable for strategic planning regulatory compliance team development and execution of platform transitions and special projects.
Key Responsibilities: Operational LeadershipOversee the strategic and day-to-day technical operations of the clinical lab in compliance with CAP federal and state regulations.
Monitor key metrics budgets and productivity across clinical lanes; leverage data to inform business decisions and drive improvements.
Ensure all standard operating procedures are current and aligned with regulatory standards and internal best practices.
Lead mentor and develop a team of 200 staff members including 2 5 direct reports.
Champion a culture of continuous improvement belonging and high accountability.
Set clear performance standards and drive team engagement and collaboration across shifts and departments.
Build future bench strength and succession plans to sustain long-term operational leadership.
Maintain rigorous quality assurance and quality control programs to ensure accuracy safety and reliability of test results.
Oversee training competency assessment and performance evaluation of laboratory personnel.
Ensure timely resolution of customer issues and maintain high levels of client satisfaction.
Lead and support lab system/platform transitions (e.g. current platform conversion in Waters Department for endotoxin testing).
Support long-term planning initiatives and expand service lines as needed.
Act as a key stakeholder in departmental-level implementations and organizational change initiatives.
Bachelors degree in Medical Technology or related life sciences field.
8 years of lab leadership experience in high-complexity high-volume clinical environments.
Valid Medical Technologist certification (e.g. ASCP AMT AAB or equivalent) required.
Florida Supervisor License (or willingness to obtain upon relocation) required.
Proven track record of leading large teams navigating technical transitions and driving operational efficiency.
Must have recent experience in a healthcare/laboratory setting.
Masters degree in Business Administration or relevant scientific field.
Experience managing multi-site lab operations or clinical testing platforms.
Experience implementing new laboratory programs platforms or product lines.
Change management expertise and comfort leading through complex organizational shifts.

Skilled in navigating matrixed organizations and building trust across diverse teams.
Data-driven decision-maker with a deep understanding of lab compliance and quality systems.
