Job Title: Registered Nurse Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) (Day & Evening Shifts)
Location: Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Bethesda MD

- 10-hour shifts Monday through Friday with potential weekend and holiday rotations
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelors Degree Registered Nursing.
- Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of two years of current experience as a PACU RN in an inpatient Phase 1 recovery unit or at least one year of experience in Critical Care.
- License: Active unrestricted RN license in any U.S. state or territory
- Certification: Certifications in BLS (Basic Life Support) ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Board Certification: The institution will be from a National League of Nursing (NLN) approved program. Successfully pass the NCLEX exam. Copy of Certificate and license required. Have successfully completed a Post-Anesthesia Care course/training program or is nationally certified as a Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CP AN).
Responsibilities
- Deliver age-appropriate nursing care from infants to geriatric patients using the nursing process
- Assess monitor and recover patients following anesthesia (general regional MAC or sedation)
- Recognize and respond to life-threatening changes; manage critical patients for up to two hours
- Operate and monitor specialized medical equipment (e.g. PCA pumps ventilators cardiac monitors)
- Administer medications including opioids per hospital and BCMA protocols
- Interpret diagnostic results and manage invasive lines and tubes (e.g. NG foley arterial lines)
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for safe patient transitions and continuity of care
- Document all assessments interventions and outcomes in MHS GENESIS EHR system
- Conduct physical assessments and provide individualized health teaching and discharge planning
- Maintain infection control and aseptic techniques; comply with HIPAA and hospital privacy policies
- Provide support to patients and families during critical illness and end-of-life situations
- Participate in in-service training quality assurance and continuing education
- Assist in maintaining unit readiness ordering supplies and participating in staff meetings
- Comply with safety legal and ethical standards in all aspects of nursing care
- Support staff and patient safety initiatives including fall prevention and transfer assistance
- Respond to emergencies (e.g. CPR code situations) according to protocols
- Participate in orientation training (e.g. sexual harassment resiliency infection control) and readiness drills
- Serve as a clinical resource to junior staff and participate in performance improvement activities.
