Job Description-Director of Technology
TITLE: Director of Technology
QUALIFICATIONS:
- This position may be filled as a certified position or a classified position.
- Certified: For this position to be filled as a certified position the person must hold a Kentucky certificate for school personnel or a bachelors degree in a corresponding field of technology.
- Classified: For this position to be filled as a classified position the person must hold a high school diploma and have experience in a technology related field.
- Knowledge of practices within the area of technology ERATE KETS requirements board policies and procedures laws and regulations.
- Ability to maintain and manage district infrastructure as well as district owned devices.
- Knowledge of districtwide management including but not limited to Active Directory Chromebook Management G-Suite Window Server Mac OS Windows OS Networking Wireless Management etc.
- Ability to work effectively with all school staff
- Experience in project management from needs assessment budget planning setting a timeline vendor management and completion of tasks within timeline and budget.
- Demonstrate a commitment to improve the technology program to enhance student achievement.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent or Superintendents Designee
JOB GOALS: Plan organize implement and coordinate all aspects of technology operations within the district. To develop and maintain a program that uses to the best advantage the computer capabilities of the district for educational excellence.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as lead on ensuring schools teach digital citizenship to students throughout the school year.
- Manage Active Directory and assign rights to all users. Create manage and delete accounts as necessary.
- Review and update the districts acceptable use policy as needed.
- Complete all state reporting requests (i.e. Technology Activity Report Digital Readiness Report etc.)
- Participate in monthly regional leadership meetings with KETS staff.
- Provide district wide support for student management system library management system internet filtering virus protection device updates.
- Maintain an up to date inventory of technology devices infrastructure and software titles.
- Proactively monitor daily performance of the wide area network among schools the performance and maintenance of switches wireless access points etc.
- Maintain and monitor network security.
- Maintain and monitor virus protection for all equipment monitor updates and deployment of Window updates iOS updates Chrome updates etc.
- Complete all required paperwork for ERATE filing.
- Stay current with vendors and K-12 technology partners.
- Engage and collaborate with school facilities staff on all renovations and new construction projects within the district.
- Ensure the district is compliant with laws and regulations relating to technology
- Chair the district technology committee and meet quarterly as needed to discuss technology needs and issues.
- In collaboration with technology committee create the district technology plan.
- Incorporate principles of the district technology plan.
- Work with advisory committee from schools central office students and community members i.e. Site Based parent business partners etc. to help guide and build technology strategic planning
- Maintain records as required by local state and federal programs and prepare written reports.
- Coordinates the distribution of computer hardware and software in the schools.
- Perform a variety of skilled and technical duties related to the installation repair and alteration of technical equipment.
- Provide assistance information and technical expertise to faculty administrators and students regarding the safe and proper operation care and maintenance of computerized equipment.
- Coordinate the configuration and installation of software and hardware for local and district workstations.
- Coordinate and perform maintenance of hardware and software including troubleshooting hardware problems and performing hardware and software updates and upgrades as necessary.
- Work with district staff to assess and plan for emerging technology.
- Educate staff on Phishing and Spam attempts
- Manage district filter Lightspeed to balance between instructional needs CIPA and unsafe sites.
- Work with appropriate staff on phones cameras and other services running off network
- Provide training for new staff on the appropriate use of equipment software network acceptable use policy etc.
- Maintain hardware and arrange for timely repair or replacement as needed.
- Collaborate with district finance officer regarding technology budgets purchasing standards etc.
- Perform other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the Superintendent or Superintendents designee.
