The Opportunity:
The Safety Specialist will report directly to the Director of Safety & Security and will have the following key responsibilities:
- Greet guests employees and students in a welcoming and professional manner
- Secure proper identification from visitors and assist them with directions
- Patrol and secure school grounds (hallways stairwells and other public/unsupervised places in the school) to maintain school security and to ensure the safety and well-being of students/staff
- Supervise and monitor students/staff throughout the school day and during events
- Approach unauthorized visitors to identify and determine the reason they are on campus grounds
- Rapidly respond to calls for support throughout all Cambridge Public Schools (including elementary schools upper schools and high schools)
- Conduct home visits/wellness checks when necessary
- Conduct safety/security and emergency preparedness presentations to students/staff
- Fully embrace security and safety training programs to enhance abilities
- Develop and foster relationships with students especially those considered to be at risk to ensure they have the necessary support
- Identify student conflicts at the earliest possible stage to prevent escalation
- Draft reports report and record discipline infractions incidents and unauthorized visitors to the school principal and appropriate administrators
- Gather incident reports from witnesses victims and alleged perpetrators
- Intervene during all safety/security related incidents while following departmental protocol/procedures
- Protect confidentiality of records and information on students and staff
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Usage of Safety & Security computer programs: Genetec S2 NetBox Aspen CI Badge etc.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree preferred minimum of a high school diploma or related degree
- Has at least 3 years of experience working with youth in a culturally diverse urban setting
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal communication skills and can relate well with students staff administrators caregivers and the community
- Ability to handle emergencies crisis situations and student/staff conflicts efficiently and effectively
- Ability to speak multiple languages (familiarity with languages spoken by the CPS enrollment population is a plus)
- Demonstrates excellent written communication skills and possesses the ability to write reports clearly and concisely
Terms of Employment:
40 hours a week 12 months a year. Work schedule is 9:00am-5:00pm or 10:00am-6:00pm (Subject to Change).
Salary: In accordance with the Cambridge Professional Safety Specialist Salary Schedule.
