Description
  • (Internal Title: Engineering VI)
    • To be responsible for leading and coordinating technical assurance of multiple design packages and construction works
    • Lead and mentor a team of engineers and designers across multiple workstreams
    • Oversee the end-to-end design and engineering process ensuring alignment with project and broader business goals timelines and quality standards
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams
    • Drive innovation in design and engineering practices tools and procedures
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards safety regulations and company policies
    • Manage project schedules and resource allocation
    • Conduct design reviews risk assessments and technical evaluations
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing
    • Engage in the practice of professional engineering which:
    • Requires the application of engineering principles
    • Is an act of planning designing composing evaluating advising reporting directing or supervising or managing any of these acts
    • Involves the safeguarding of life health property economic interests the public welfare or the environment
    • Comply with regulations and guidelines for the practice of professional engineering in the Province of licensure including but not limited to professional responsibility the Engineers duty to report use of the Professional Engineers seal due diligence report writing giving opinions communications confidential information data gathering and site investigations
    • Apply expert-level engineering knowledge skills tools and techniques to meet program requirements in the area of expertise
    • Implement and direct the specialty engineering services on projects and programs from inception through to completion
    • Set the overall direction for engineering services on the project or program and ensure the work is fully supported from an engineering standpoint in an integrated compliant efficient and cost-effective manner
    • Organize engineering services activities per the mission and goals of the project or program
    • Create and manage short and long-term engineering service goals and success criteria for projects or programs
    • Establish a budget and operating or delivery plan for the engineering services on a project or program; consult with our project or program team and client when applicable
    • Forecast direct and execute appropriate means and methods to complete the required engineering services in the project portfolio from inception through to completion
    • Determine the human and material resources required to successfully deliver the project or program
    • Direct the daily work and control the delivery of the project portfolio per project plans
    • Manage a large engineering team that may consist of multi-firm and client resources
    • Leverage the teams diverse array of talents through the delegation of responsibilities
    • Ensure goals are met including customer satisfaction and engineering team member performance
    • Define the success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties throughout the project and program life cycle
    • Oversee the interface between client consultants and all associated service providers at all levels of the engagement model
    • Direct the implementation and management of changes and interventions to ensure engineering service goals are achieved on the project or program
    • Facilitate project focus and functional meetings for engineering initiatives
    • Manage senior-level customer relationships
    • Ensure there is a communication plan in place for meeting with stakeholders (including senior management and sponsors) to make the exchange of project-related information easy and transparent
    • Direct the production of accurate and timely reporting of engineering services and project or program performance throughout its life cycle
    • Identify and analyze risks and implement mitigation strategies and contingency plans
    • Review and ensure adherence to the engineering services delivery plan scope schedule milestones budgets and KPIs and address issues with corrective actions as appropriate
    • Control the delivery of project engineering progress reports proposals and presentations to various audiences including the project team senior executives key stakeholders and Comtech Operations
    • Evaluate and ensure the accurate interpretation of the entire scope of the assignment and manage and support any scope change negotiations
    • Develop evaluation methods to assess the effectiveness of the engineering services on the project or program and identify areas for improvement
    • Set and adjust if required the engineering services expectations for the project or program while delegating and managing deliverables with the engineering team
    • Build and maintain a positive high-performing team culture with an openness to constructive challenge continuous improvement implementation of lessons learned and an overall right-first-time mindset
    • Direct the management of and develop and communicate clear and focused project staff performance and objectives (which may include non-Comtech resources) to ensure excellence in result
    • Nurture a project environment that is inclusive and diverse and celebrates our differences
    • Develop and facilitate engineering service training for members of the project team appropriate to their area of accountability
    • Clarify and resolve internal quality control checks and issues for the project portfolio

Requirements
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 18 years of experience in engineering or design management
    • Strong understanding of design principles and engineering methodologies
    • Project management experience on large scale rapid transit projects
    • Experience working with a large team of technical professionals and large-scale contractors
    • Demonstrated experience successfully managing the competing objectives of many external and internal stakeholders
  • Education:
    • Bachelors degree in Engineering in area of specialty
  • Licenses OR Certifications:
    • Holding and maintaining recognized PEng. licensure in the Province of practice
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with experience managing a variety of internal and external stakeholders including municipalities
    • Expert grasp of prevailing engineering methods
    • Extensive understanding of tools and metrics needed to evaluate project performance
    • Expert in other engineering-related software
    • Demonstrated functional acumen to support how solutions will address client goals while maintaining alignment with industry best practices
    • Demonstrated capability to supervise delegate and develop capacity
    • Tact to perceive and ameliorate conflict and tension
    • Effective capacity to anticipate identify and minimize risks
    • Proven success in providing on-site leadership for project teams by building and motivating them to meet project goals adhere to their responsibilities and project milestones
    • Substantiated experience delivering excellent results and exceeding clients and external and internal stakeholders expectations
    • Keen on sustainability social responsibility and making a positive environmental impact
    • Competent in understanding interdependencies between technology operations and business needs
    • Adept at taking the lead on potentially risky technical decisions related to engineering services
    • Ability to arrange priorities and escalate competing risks to meet deadlines
    • Effectively leads multi-resource engineering teams
    • Ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment by ensuring effective teamwork promotion of innovation and overall excellence
    • Expert ability to detect capitalize and be sensitive to others strengths
    • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office
    • Must maintain professional development to keep abreast of emerging technologies methods and best practices
    • Keen eye for detail and adept problem-solving abilitieswith a track record for meeting deadlines
    • Must have demonstrated experience relaying and receiving information (written and verbal)in a demanding multidisciplinary project environment
    • Expert ability to work collaboratively and independently on creative and analytical tasks in a structured disciplined technology-driven environment
