ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a full-time exempt level position in Mountain View California.

SVCFs work environment is based on a holistic wellness approach and therefore has embraced a hybrid remote/office work environment. All SVCF team members must be based and hold residency in California and must be able to regularly attend team and staff meetings trainings and other gatherings in Mountain View when required.

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Vice President Development and Donor Engagement the Director Development is responsible for developing leading and executing Silicon Valley Community Foundations charitable fund development and fundraising strategies. The Director will work across SVCF teams to ensure that development goals are met while growing new and existing relationships with a focus on engaging ultra-high-net-worth individuals professional advisors corporations and foundations.

The Director will work in close partnership with SVCF Leadership to develop and execute on a fundraising strategy to raise $50M annually from new prospects. The Director will also manage a portfolio of two hundred prospective donors with the aim of garnering support for SVCF funds and initiatives and stewarding the donor portfolio accordingly.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In partnership with the Vice President Development and Donor Engagement and in coordination with foundation leadership:

• Develop and operationalize development and outreach strategies as well as engagement models that target UHNW individuals and families professional advisors (e.g. attorneys tax planners and wealth experts to facilitate their clients charitable goals utilizing SVCF services and offerings) current SVCF donors family offices corporations and institutional funders.
• Work across the Philanthropic Partnership Division to execute a comprehensive cultivation solicitation and stewardship strategy to maximize donor retention engagement and investment.
• Work collaboratively with the Director Gift Planning to ensure a seamless outreach process to professional advisors for development purposes and lead generation (e.g. events in-person meetings e-communications and compelling professional advisor outreach materials).
• Lead prospect research efforts to identify capacity affinity and likelihood to support SVCF initiatives and campaigns.
• Respond to inquiries and manage a portfolio of individual corporate and nonprofit prospects to open new charitable vehicles or negotiate custom proposals for SVCF consulting and management services.
• Create prospect briefs and internal memos to support executive leadership in major donor cultivation.
• Partner with the Marketing and Communications teams on developing marketing and communications strategies inclusive of assisting in the creation of informational and impactful collateral materials outreach events etc.
• Develop and lead development and stewardship activities for non-fundholders who donate to SVCF initiatives.
• Lead complicated gift transactions including the transfer of complex assets (i.e. non-liquid gifts such as restricted or closely held stock cryptocurrency etc.).
• In partnership with teams across SVCF track funds raised toward organizational initiatives and campaign goals; manage internal reporting on commitments and funds raised for all initiatives and campaigns.
• Engage with prospective donors and funders in person by email and through engagement events and webinars.
• Serve as a department resource and remain current on legal tax accounting and investment topics as they affect charitable giving.
• Other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED SKILLS

• Bachelors degree and at least 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising CFRE certification preferred.
• Professional and personal alignment with Silicon Valley Community Foundations mission and values.
• Proven track record in securing seven/-figure gifts.
• Prior community foundation and/or Donor Advised Fund experience.
• Successful sophisticated business development and/or wealth management environment experience.
• Proven fundraising and development skills with a successful track record in identifying cultivating and stewarding a broad donor base including individuals corporations and foundations.
• Strong knowledge of the range of philanthropic vehicles available to donors including the tax and compliance requirements associated with each as well as gifting and grantmaking.
• Experience in contributing to the growth of an organization by supporting new partnerships or business development opportunities.
• Knowledge of trends and best practices in philanthropy.
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to customer service; provide prompt professional responses to all prospect inquiries.
• Excellent writing editing analytical and oral communication skills including the ability to collect review synthesize and present information and findings.
• An understanding of the Bay Area philanthropic community and charitable organizations.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and make strategic and tactical decisions in a complex evolving and high-paced/high-output environment.
• Ability to manage and meet internal and external deadlines for projects while balancing competing priorities.
• Ability to participate as a team member working collaboratively and managing projects across diverse groups with a commitment to following and enforcing processes and procedures
• Experience developing team members.
• Strong software skills in Microsoft Office Suite Outlook iWave Salesforce PowerBI Tableau or equivalent platforms.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

SVCF is committed to offering competitive salaries and comprehensive benefits. The target hiring range for this position is $175000 to $181000 per year based on experience credentials and internal salary equity.
