Camberwell Grammar School is an independent Anglican day school for boys from Pre-Preparatory to Year 12. ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a team-orientated enthusiastic life-long learner to join our Middle and Senior Schools as a Learning Assistant.
You will work under the guidance of classroom and special education teachers supporting targeted boys some with specific learning needs. You will work individually or in small groups in and out of the classroom. In addition this role supports classroom teachers and the Head of Learning Enhancement with individual students and other classroom assessments. Some minor administrative duties may also be required. Relevant qualifications and experience working within a school setting would be highly regarded.
Key responsibilities include:
Support student learning under the direction of a teacher with individual and small groups of students to assist them with their learning.
Provide close supervision and assistance in classrooms and the playground including some scheduled recess and lunchtime periods.
Work as part of a team and liaise with the Head of Learning Enhancement classroom teachers and all staff teaching students with additional needs.
Always encourage positive social interaction with peers.
Use your initiative to support students to manage and complete tasks whilst maintaining focus.
Work with the classroom teacher to modify learning activities to meet the needs of individual students.
Accompany students on camps excursions and other out of school activities when required.
Attend professional development sessions specifically targeting strategies and accommodations to meet the needs of students and at the request of the Head of Learning Enhancement.

ABOUT YOU
You are an outstanding learning assistant who can lead by example model exceptional practice and support the Head of Learning Enhancement. You are able to demonstrate an understanding of the educational social and emotional needs of children with learning disabilities and other specific learning needs. A genuine passion for meeting the educational needs of students along with a willingness to engage in ongoing professional development is also required.
Knowledge & skills
Demonstrated experience working effectively in a similar role.
Excellent interpersonal skills in working with students staff and parents.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent digital skills.
A passion for supporting students with learning challenges.
A caring and enthusiastic nature.
A reliable and flexible approach.
A capacity and desire to develop positive professional relationships with students with special needs.
Outstanding planning and organisational skills coupled with adaptability to deal with the unexpected.
Experience in fostering a dynamic learning community and committed to the development of the whole person.
Qualifications
Certificate III in Childrens Services
Current VIT registration / Working with Children Check
National Crime Check
Asthma and Anaphylaxis training certification
