Job Description

The organisation

Tasc (Legal and Social Justice Services) provides free legal social work and advocacy services across the Greater South-West Queensland region. With offices in Toowoomba Ipswich Goondiwindi Roma Hervey Bay and Gympie we work to positively impact the communities we serve via an accessible inclusive and values-based framework. Our multidisciplinary model of service delivery aims to create the best client experience and outcomes.

The position

Based in Toowoomba the Deputy Principal Solicitor supports the Legal Practice Director in the day-to-day supervision and operation of our legal team providing advice and casework services across a diverse range of funded programs including generalist legal services elder law tenancy advice and health justice partnerships.

  • Provide high-quality legal advice and lead complex casework
  • Mentor and supervise staff solicitors and volunteers using active matters as learning opportunities
  • Oversee team operations including casework approval advice checking KPI and workload management ensure regional coverage manage program delivery and funder reporting
  • Assume Nominated Person responsibilities and higher duties when necessary
  • Promote compliance manage legal risk and a develop a positive team culture
  • Represent Tasc at stakeholder forums legal partnerships and networks
  • Lead and oversee law reform and community legal engagement activities in a way that promotes our vision mission and values.

The person

The ability to consider your work through the lens of client impact is essential. You will be eligible to hold an unrestricted Practising Certificate and have relevant post-admission experience including leading complex casework (preferably 5 years).

  • Current eligibility for Blue and Yellow Cards (mandatory criminal history screening)
  • Demonstrated experience supervising mentoring and developing legal staff and volunteers
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a positive adaptable and collaborative leadership style
  • Ability to travel within the region as required to support remote offices and outreach clinics.

Youll also bring professionalism adaptability and empathy along with the ability to lead by example and contribute to a trauma-informed culturally safe and inclusive workplace.
