Job Description:
What Youll Be Doing:
Assist in the Resource Room at the Omaha Job Center to support job seekers with NEworks registration rsum help and referrals to partner services.
Conduct interviews with claimants employers and other parties to evaluate unemployment insurance eligibility.
Apply state and federal laws to determine eligibility for benefits and issue formal appealable written determinations.
Reconcile conflicting information using sound judgment and documented evidence.
Represent the Commissioner of Labor during unemployment appeal hearings; testify and present factual findings.
Deliver exceptional customer service by explaining legal processes clearly and treating every interaction with professionalism empathy and patience.
Respond to inquiries from claimants and employers regarding determinations legal procedures and appeal rights.
Investigate potential overpayments and document necessary actions in compliance with law.
Refer individuals to reemployment services and help verify ongoing eligibility for benefits.
Retrieve verify and update claimant and employer data in internal systems.
Follow NDOL policies federal timeliness standards and uphold confidentiality at all times.
Perform other duties as assigned to support Unemployment Insurance Benefits and Reemployment programs.
Location: This is an on-site position located at 5752 Ames Avenue Omaha.
Work Schedule: 8am - 5pm; Monday - Friday
Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Post high-school coursework/training in math composition and/or use of computer equipment OR experience in fact finding/interviewing customer service including answering inquiries explaining procedures or experience in customer service or call center.
Preferred Qualifications: An associate or bachelors degree in business administration public administration human resources legal studies social sciences or a related field. Coursework in labor law employment law conflict resolution or interviewing techniques is highly desirable; Bilingual in Spanish and English; Prior experience adjudicating unemployment claims or making eligibility decisions in a government or legal setting; detailed documentation application of laws or policy or participation in hearings or formal reviews.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of Nebraska Employment Security Law or ability to learn and apply it accurately.
Strong written communication skills; ability to issue clear and defensible decisions.
Skilled in interviewing critical thinking time management and staying composed under pressure.
Committed to delivering excellent service to claimants and employers even in complex or sensitive situations.
Proficient in computer typing and data entry skills.
Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
