Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 35 local health districts.

The Richmond & Henrico County Health Districts (RHHD) are on the forefront of Public Health and Population Health. Our mission is to protect health champion equity and partner to address local needs. We accomplish this by exposing and addressing the root causes of health disparities and protecting health through disease prevention and monitoring providing clinical services nutrition services environmental health services vital records emergency planning and building health equity by partnering with communities and working collaboratively across sectors. RHHD is currently seeking an Health Educator Supervisor (CHW Supervisor). This position plays an integral lead role in the development implementation maintenance and evaluation of community-based public health initiatives. Collaborates with District staff and community partners to promote health & prevent disease. Provides direct supervision to the District general community health educators and leads prevention programs. The position will assist the District Health Director to engage and guide local policy makers in their efforts to address and develop policies that impact public health. Provides public information and leads public relations activities for health district or office.

The position is based at the Richmond City Health District and will work primarily at 400 E Cary Street but will travel to all associated Resource Center locations (currently located in public housing communities) on a regular basis to oversee staff and operations. Typical work hours will be Monday-Friday 8:00 AM 5:00 PM. Some weekend and/or evening hours may be required. Mileage reimbursement is available for any work-related travel.

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge that supports assigned program
Excellent organization & presentation skills; strong networking abilities & communication skills
Ability to act independently manage a multi-disciplinary state-wide program develop goals and evaluate progress
Experience with grant writing budget management and supervision of staff
Knowledge and experience in use of computers and computer applications including Internet Microsoft Office and various Mail applications
May travel and work some weekends and/or evening hours

Additional Considerations

Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) for Health Educators preferred
Previous experience in community health and the assessment/improvement process preferred
Previous experience in community health and the assessment/improvement process preferred
Previous or current leadership experience in Public Health or related field
Previous Experience with Community Health related Grants
