Job Description

POSITION: Task Force Teacher (Elementary Jr. High and Special Education)

POSITION GUIDE: Certified Personnel

9 Months

Non Bargaining Unit Position

Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

Assistant Principal

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the building principal the substitute classroom teacher will continue to offer the same quality educational program as the regular employed teacher.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND/OR LICENSE:

  1. Substitute License Required.
  2. Applicants must possess effective behavior management skills.
  3. Excellent listening and speaking skills.
  4. Able to assist students with academic subject matter.
  5. Appropriate interpersonal skills.
  6. Good classroom management skills.
  7. Uses a variety of instructional strategies to present material to students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Reviews with the principal assistant principal all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day.
  2. Implements the District 86 curriculum utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of School Inspectors.
  3. Implements the existing plans of the regular teacher when the substitute is employed for only one or two days for the same regular teacher.
  4. Executes all necessary planning organization student evaluation and grade reporting when the substitute is employed for three or more days for the same regular teacher.
  5. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  6. Evaluates student academic and social growth keeps appropriate records prepares progress reports and communicates with parents if appropriate through conferences and other means to discuss student progress and interpret the school program.
  7. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health attitude and learning problems.
  8. Creates an effective environment for learning by utilizing displays or bulletin boards.
  9. Maintains professional competence.
  10. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
  11. Communicates with the regular teacher regarding activities which took place while the regular teacher was absent.
  12. To seek assistance from or through the building principal or other support personnel to improve the instructional program or to solve specific problems.
  13. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day.
  14. Performs all other duties as assigned.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

  1. Strong communication public relation and interpersonal skills.
  2. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information collaborative efforts and feedback.
  3. Ability to compose correspondence reports and/or other required written materials.
  4. Ability to read analyze and interpret information.
  5. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions inquiries and/or complaints.
  6. Displays courtesy tact and respect when dealing with others.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  1. Ability to perform basic math using whole numbers common fractions and decimals consistent with the duties of this position.

REASONING ABILITY:

  1. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and information furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.
  2. Ability to identify and define problem(s) collect and analyze data establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Maintains appropriate confidentiality.
  2. Promotes a harassment-free environment.
  3. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships; demonstrates a commitment to teamwork.
  4. Ability to learn and utilize office equipment computers and software especially as systems are updated.
  5. Ability to react well under pressure handle and balance multiple demands at one time work with frequent interruptions and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism.
  6. Extensive knowledge of and ability to perform duties in compliance with all district Board state and federal laws methods requirements policies procedures and activities pertinent to the duties of this position.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand walk sit talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters when performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.

Employee experiences constant interruptions and inflexible deadlines. The noise level in this environment is quiet to moderate. Duties are performed primarily indoors and occasionally outdoors. In-district and out-of-town travel required as necessary for training and/or to carry out duties and responsibilities.
