Ballarat & Grampians Community Legal Service has a 35-year history of providing free legal services to people experiencing deep and persistent disadvantage. We have invested significantly in the development of our new Strategy 2025-2027 to ensure our organisation is providing contemporary integrated services to respond the shared and unique needs of the people we support across 11 local government areas in Western Victoria.

By providing legal services community legal education law reform and integrated services through client centred trauma informed and culturally safe practice we will improve the safety and wellbeing of families and individuals.

THE ROLE

The Community Engagement Officer will develop and implement strategies to engage local communities across the Grampians region with the aim of creating pathways to legal assistance and information for BGCLS priority groups. Working within the context of health justice partnerships (HJP) the Community Engagement Officer will work collaboratively across BGCLS teams the community legal sector and the local service system to achieve partnership outcomes. Identifying and tailoring solutions to the unique needs and strengths of communities.

Reporting to the Project Manager Health Justice Partnerships this position is responsible for:

  • Developing tailored strategies to engage with local communities that identify and highlight their unique legal needs increase awareness of BGCLS services and programs and develop clear pathways for assistance.
  • Work collaboratively with communities and other services to build health justice partnerships and deliver activities which are meaningful and relevant to each community
  • Support the development and delivery of communication strategies information campaigns and resources which respond to the legal needs of communities and priority groups and leverage existing resources in the community and broader legal sector.
  • Contribute to the development of operations and project plans that align with research informed health justice partnership frameworks
  • Contribute to the reporting requirements for funding acquittals and to advocate for identified needs in various communities across the region
  • Develop formal and informal partnerships to deliver project purpose and strengthen broader service delivery of BGCLS in communities across the region
  • Utilise collaboration across the legal and justice sector support the delivery of BGCLS activities and increased access to justice for all
  • Maintain records of activity that align with reporting requirements
  • Provide general customer service support at BGCLS offices as required

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Experience in community development within the community services or government sectors
  2. Ability to design community development strategies within the program guidelines and funding agreements
  3. Demonstrated ability to think innovatively and with a best practice mindset
  4. Experience in working collaboratively with stakeholders to achieve the desired outcome
  5. Understanding of a range of communities within the Grampians region

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant discipline or equivalent experience
  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence
  • National Police Record Check
  • Current right to work in Australia
  • Valid employee Working with Children Check
  • Physical ability to safely undertake all aspect of the position
