The Opportunity
The Catalyst and Community Engagement program offers a series of STEM-based initiatives designed for youth in Grades 3-10 exposing them to diverse STEM fields and career pathways. These initiatives are delivered through partnerships with youth- and community-focused organizations ensuring accessible and engaging learning experiences.
Key components of the program include:
- STEM Sparks Hands-on interactive STEM modules designed to spark curiosity and increase youth interest confidence and awareness in STEM. These sessions are delivered in collaboration with partners such as Lay-Up Youth Basketball TCHC Camp Inspire and other community organizations during their day camp programming.
- Sport & STEM - Our Sport and STEM program in partnership with MLSE Launchpad combines STEM and physical activity for grade 7-8 students from target schools across the GTA. We aim to increase confidence and interest in STEM and support positive youth development through sport
- Workshops & Community Engagement Pop-up workshops and hands-on STEM learning opportunities tailored for youth across different communities creating accessible entry points for STEM exploration.
Position Overview
As a Program Facilitator you will play a key role in delivering engaging and high-impact STEM experiences for youth while contributing to broader community engagement initiatives. Working closely with team members and community partners you will help bring innovative programming
to life supporting participants STEM knowledge practical skills and social-emotional development.
This role empowers youth to connect STEM concepts to their everyday lives sparking curiosity confidence and leadership. You will collaborate with program coordinators and report to project leads including program managers or directors depending on the initiative. We are seeking individuals who are passionate about supporting youth in low-income and racialized communities with strong facilitation skills and a commitment to equity in education. The ideal candidate is adaptable engaging and motivated to create inclusive spaces where youth and families can thrive.
Position Details
Contract Type/Term: Part-time Fixed-Term
Contract Duration: September 29 2025 - June 5 2026
Hours of Work/Schedule: < 20 hours/week (primarily after-school evenings and some weekends)
Job Location(s): In-person across communities in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Facilitators will be assigned to a primary region wherever possible; however the ability to travel within Toronto is required. Please ensure you have reliable transportation or the ability to commute to different locations as needed. Programming will take place in the following regions:
- West (including but not limited to areas such as Rexdale Etobicoke North York Brampton)
- East (including but not limited to areas such as Scarborough and Malvern)
- Central (including but not limited to areas such as downtown East York North York York)
Salary: $23.15 CAD/hr

Major Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to)
Program Delivery & Facilitation
- Plan and facilitate interactive STEM workshops and activities for youth in Grades 310
- Create inclusive engaging and safe learning environments that encourage curiosity and participation
- Collaborate with program staff to adapt lesson plans and activities to meet participant needs
Participant & Community Engagement
- Build strong relationships with youth families and community partners
- Encourage leadership teamwork and self-advocacy skills among youth participants
- Support outreach efforts to broaden community participation and program impact
- Engage with families caregivers and supports to strengthen connections and awareness of STEM opportunities
Program Administration & Evaluation
- Collect and review participant feedback through surveys and focus groups.
- Share observations and session highlights with Site Leads Program Coordinators and Managers
- Contribute to program reports and documentation by providing input on outcomes challenges and successes
- Contribute to program documentation and reporting.
- Track expenses and assist with materials and inventory management
Team & Organizational Support
- Participate in team debriefs reflection sessions and program reviews
- Assist with packing restocking and maintaining program materials
- Collaborate with fellow facilitators coordinators and staff to ensure smooth delivery
- Represent Visions of Science positively and professionally in all interactions with schools partners and communities
What Were Looking For
Education & Training
- Interest in current study of or completion of a field related to STEM education child and youth care or social work is preferred
Experience & Expertise
- Minimum 1 year of experience facilitating or leading programs for children and youth preferably in low-income and/or racialized communities
- Experience delivering workshops tutoring or interactive group activities
- Ability to adapt lessons to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Strong behavior management conflict resolution and interpersonal skills
- Experience working effectively with diverse populations demonstrating cultural sensitivity and inclusion
Key Competencies & Skills
- Strong facilitation and youth engagement skills; able to deliver interactive STEM activities
- Effective communicator with youth families educators and partners
- Dependable accountable and consistent in supporting program delivery
- Strong organizational and time management skills to balance multiple responsibilities
- Adaptability and problem-solving skills to address dynamic program needs
- Commitment to fostering inclusive safe and welcoming spaces for children and youth from equity-deserving communities
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word Excel and Google Drive (training available if needed)
Additional Asset(s)
- Lived experience in low-income and/or racialized communities
- Valid G license and access to a vehicle
- Experience in the non-profit sector and/or knowledge of systemic barriers affecting our communities
