Job Description:

The Associate Vice President (AVP) Finance Treasury and Balance Sheet Management (TBSM) reports to the Vice President Finance Corporate Segment Finance Business Management and is responsible for leading a dedicated team of Finance professionals responsible for developing and delivering financial strategy and providing financial measurement analysis and decision support to the TBSM function in TD Bank Financial Group.

AVPs at TD Bank Financial Group are strategic responsible and accountable members of the Banks leadership team. Collectively these roles contribute significantly to the overall reputation of TD as an excellent investment a highly customer focused organization a top employer and an exemplary corporate citizen. Executives set the ethical organizational and performance standard for the teams they lead and exemplify how an effective performance and development culture functions day to day. An AVP is expected to guide his/her team collaborating as appropriate with TD partners to deliver superior results in both the short and long term.

In doing so they are expected to role model TDs leadership profile by making an impact building for the future inspiring the will to win working effectively in teams living transparency showing excellent judgment and demonstrating unwavering integrity. AVP roles therefore require:

  • People leadership knowing how to lead high performing teams communicating well and taking the time to coach and develop others.

  • Organizational awareness knowing how to engage the organization to get things done deal with complex change and enhance TDs brand.

  • Business acumen understanding his/her business from the ground up and the key levers that will deliver superior results.

  • Strategic insight having a compelling vision and engaging others in achieving it providing thought leadership and constantly striving to find new ways to do things better.

Position Specific Accountabilities:

This role provides senior financial and operational thought leadership for the TBSM Function. In addition to TBSM business partners the team works closely with a range of partners including Enterprise Decision Support Segment Finance Chief Accountants department Tax Financial Operations Technology and Data & Analytics. Reporting to this role is a team of finance professionals.

Finance and Business Leadership Accountabilities:

The AVP is a business advisor to TBSM collaborating with TBSM executives and leadership role includes oversight of:

  • Financial planning reporting and forecasting and presenting results to each functions Executive leadership team on a regular basis.

  • Business advisory and ad hoc support:

  • Tell the financial story and provide strategic financial advice.

  • Proactively identify financial opportunities risks and solutions.

  • Advise on P&L optimization opportunities (revenue expense management and productivity).

  • Understand the TDBG Balance sheet interactions between the Segment Balance Sheets and key drivers of TBSM and Segment P&L.

  • Review financial and strategic benefits of initiatives and provide constructive challenge as appropriate.

  • Oversee financial reporting signoff including providing advice on risk and controls and accounting policy implications as appropriate.

  • Promote and foster a positive working environment that encourages innovation creativity teamwork and strong strategic partnerships with the business.

  • Build for the future and provide people leadership; oversee people plans and strategies to attract motivate and retain a highly diverse qualified and engaged human resource base to fulfill current and future business needs.

Specific Educational Requirements / Accreditations:

  • CPA/CA/CFA would be an asset.

Additional Skills / Experience:

  • A finance executive with broad range of financial management and advisory experience with extensive understanding of the business and key financial drivers.

  • Experience in Treasury or Capital Markets or in a support role.

  • Possess an advanced level of expertise and financial acumen to provide insight on strategy development and be a strategic partner to the business on a broad range of financial matters.

  • Must be a critical thinker detailed-oriented resourceful and highly adaptable.

  • Balanced approach ability to stay resilient under pressure.

  • People leadership is key element to this role both the ability to effectively work in teams across the bank with multiple stakeholders influence and align others.

  • Proven ability to manage a diverse group of professionals is critical to success in this role.

  • Time management and organizational skills to meet tight deadlines as well as flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.

  • Confident presentation and facilitation skills and strong interpersonal and leadership skills to facilitate working with business and senior management at all levels.

  • Excellent analytical skills in assessing finance / market and business issues and exceptional communication skills (written and verbal).
