Serve as chief executive officer in the absence of the president and/or as instructed.
Direct all functions of the university in conformity with board of trustees and presidential direction university policy federal state and local law and regulations.
Provide leadership in support of the academic enterprise as well as support for the pursuit of excellence in each college/school and advancement of university vision. Foster innovation in pedagogy curriculum design and use of technology to enhance learning outcomes increase access and strengthen LMUs competitive position.
Provide leadership to the conduct of admissions financial aid and career development for students. Responsible for the oversight of the quality and practices associated with undergraduate graduate and professional study at the university. The provost oversees the administrative practices associated with enrollment course offerings tuition student fees and the policies and values which guide these endeavors.
Champion Ignatian pedagogical principles and Marymount values ensuring that academic programming faculty development and student engagement reflect the charisms of the universitys three sponsoring religious orders especially through the promotion of justice service and ethical discernment.
Formulate a compelling vision for the universitys academic future and provide leadership in refining the universitys goals and strategic plan through evidence-based academic planning demographic forecasting labor market analysis and program assessment to anticipate emerging trends and ensure institutional resilience.
Manage complex institutional challenges by effective facilitation and mediation when required. Demonstrate capacity for crisis leadership including institutional continuity planning public health response emergency communications and ethical decision-making in volatile uncertain complex and ambiguous environments.
Support each college/school including but not limited to working with:
Ensure successful institutional and specialized accreditation efforts compliance with federal and state regulations and the continuous improvement of academic quality through robust assessment and review processes.
Guide a thoughtful and intentional budget process that supports the universitys strategic goals and ensures sound allocation of resources.
Ensure the universitys commitment to interculturalism as evidenced by creative and effective initiatives to attract and retain talented students faculty and staff; programming that models inclusiveness; policy & procedure; and community involvement both within and outside of the university.
Provide leadership to the university community and beyond: students faculty staff donors board members and community at large. Uphold the principles of shared governance and maintain strong transparent and collaborative relationships with faculty senate and governance bodies to ensure inclusive academic decision-making that align with university goals.
Foster an environment of collegiality support and mutual trust.
Support the leadership team by hiring for mission providing timely and direct feedback creating opportunities for personal and professional development/ growth providing incentives for high performance and ensuring success.
Represent LMUs academic interests and excellence in regional national and international forums and associations.
Compliance Expectations
Lead the University with respect to all federal state and local compliance standards including but not limited to:TitleVI andTitleVII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964; Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; Higher Education Act of 2008 (HEOA); Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA); Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP); Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC); the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act); and NCAA Conference and conduct all aspects of the Universitys athletic programs in accordance with the rules and policies established by the university the athletics department all sports conference affiliations and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
