Job Description: Quantity Surveyor
Overview
My client are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor to join their growing and dynamic team. You will play a critical role in managing construction costs and ensuring projects are delivered within budget while meeting quality and safety standards. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced quantity surveyor to contribute to innovative refurbishment and construction projects with a leading main contractor.
Responsibilities
As a Quantity Surveyor your main duties will include:
- Preparing cost estimates budgets and tender documents for construction projects.
- Conducting feasibility studies and value engineering exercises as needed.
- Collaborating with project managers architects and contractors to ensure cost-effective project delivery.
- Reviewing and negotiating subcontractor agreements and contracts.
- Monitoring project progress and preparing reports related to costs cash flows and financial forecasts.
- Managing variations claims and resolving disputes in an efficient and professional manner.
- Conducting on-site visits to monitor progress and ensure adherence to budget and quality standards.
- Proactively identifying areas for cost savings without compromising on functionality or quality.
- Staying up to date with relevant legislation and compliance requirements in the construction industry.
Qualifications
To excel in this role candidates should meet the following qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor particularly within refurbishment or main contractor roles.
- A degree in Quantity Surveying Construction Management or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of construction processes materials and regulations.
- Excellent analytical and numerical skills with keen attention to detail.
- Proficiency in relevant construction estimating and project management software.
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills to liaise effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while managing competing priorities.
- Professional membership with RICS CIOB or equivalent is desirable but not essential.
Day-to-Day
On a typical day as a Quantity Surveyor you can expect to:
- Attend project meetings with clients contractors and architects to discuss costings and project scope.
- Draft and review bills of quantities schedules of works and tender packages.
- Conduct site measurements and valuations to assess progress and ensure alignment with project budgets.
- Analyse project risks and propose cost-effective measures to mitigate them.
- Update financial reports and liaise with finance teams for payment certifications and reconciliations.
- Collaborate with project teams to address challenges and recommend solutions on-site or in the office.
