Role Overview
The QC Engineer is responsible for collecting analysing and summarising process and product-related data to support continual improvement of QC processes and product quality. The role includes organising product qualification tests ensuring compliance with standards conducting audits and maintaining QC records. The QC Engineer also deputises for the QC Manager when required and ensures adherence to safety quality and environmental procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Product Qualification Tests
- Organize and undertake short-term and long-term product qualification tests with the support of the QC Manager.
- Prepare qualification test procedures and ensure tests are conducted and reported in line with requirements.
- Continuously update the company s product qualifications in line with local/international standards and specifications.
New Raw Material Approval
- Assist the Production Engineering Department in performing new raw material approval qualification tests.
- Support PED during new production trials and testing.
- Prepare production trial reports for raw material qualifications.
Process Quality Control
- Randomly inspect production processes and tests of pipes and fittings to ensure quality control.
- Study operations sequences material flow and project information flow to identify and eliminate bottlenecks.
- Evaluate the precision and accuracy of production/testing equipment and engineering drawings to formulate corrective actions.
- Recommend methods for improving QC inspection and testing processes.
Data Collection and Analysis
- Collect relevant data from processes and products in coordination with QC inspectors supervisors and production staff.
- Ensure accurate reporting of data on rejections repairs thickness variance mechanical properties and raw material variance.
- Apply statistical methods to analyse data and determine manufacturing processes production and quality standards.
- Prepare monthly reports such as Fiberstrong Pipe and RM databases GRE Pipe Dashboard and QC Monthly Report for submission to the QC Manager.
Audits and Corrective Actions
- Conduct internal audits to check compliance in ongoing production processes and finished products.
- Issue non-conformity reports (NCRs) and follow up on timely closures with relevant departments.
Mould Checks
- Review engineering drawings of major moulds to ensure precision and accuracy within product acceptance criteria.
- Ensure mould dimensions are checked by QC inspectors against relevant mould/product drawings upon receipt from suppliers.
Raw Material Calculation & Machine Setup Verification
- Ensure raw material calculations and machine setups for production are prepared based on actual product requirements.
Project-Specific Documentation
- Review project specifications for QC-related clauses and submit tables of compliance at the RFQ stage.
- Prepare project-related Quality Control Procedures Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) and Material Pre-Qualification Test Plans.
Quality Assurance Procedures
- Review and update Quality Assurance Procedures applicable to QC.
Testing Equipment Calibration
- Monitor calibration of testing and measuring equipment to ensure compliance with latest norms and requirements.
- Coordinate with QC Manager and calibration agencies to maintain valid external calibrations for testing machines.
Control of Records
- Ensure QC records are maintained for future reference.
- Ensure updated controlled documents/forms are in use and obsolete documents are segregated.
Policies and Procedures
- Communicate operational procedures and work instructions to QC staff and monitor adherence for controlled work .
Safety Quality and Environment
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety quality and environmental procedures and instructions.
- Conduct toolbox training sessions for QC staff.
Qualifications Experience & Skills
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology 4-year course).
Preferred Experience:
- Minimum 7 years of experience.
- Strong knowledge and experience in fibreglass applications.
- Proven experience in thread inspections of Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG) based on API standards.
- Proven experience in managing QMS based on API Q1 and ISO 9001.
Job-Specific Skills:
- Quality control expertise.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 Management System.
- Internal auditing skills.
- Detailed knowledge of international standards related to fibreglass products.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Ability to undertake detailed inspections.
- Knowledge of laboratory testing requirements and calibration of inspection equipment.
