Job Description: Multi Lingual Learner Coordinator

Reports To: Superintendent of Schools

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years or more teaching experience
  • Connecticut State Certification as an Administrator (092)
  • Connecticut State Certification in TESOL (111)
  • Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Experience delivering professional development
  • Demonstrated fluency in English and at least one other language
  • Leadership experience in TESOL
  • Extensive experience in and demonstrated knowledge of English Language Development ESOL and Second Language Acquisition (SLA) instructional methods and assessment procedures

Job Description: The Coordinator of MultiLingual Learners develops coordinates supervises and evaluates the districts EL English Learner and Bi-Lingual Programs. The position will be based at one or multiple schools to support the needs of MLL students and staff along with other building-level tasks as directed by the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.

Specific Duties:

  • Collaborate with other staff in the district
  • Supervision of programs in the areas of bilingual and EL
  • Plan and implement projects and curriculum
  • Plans for instructional materials and assessment
  • Supervises and evaluates certified personnel
  • Prepare oral or written communications such as presentations reports memoranda letters grant proposals curriculum documents etc
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students staff parents
  • Communicate orally and in writing in preferably two or more languages
  • Provide for continuing improvement of instruction through professional development including teacher observations principal observations and classroom/school visits
  • Organize and conduct staff meetings for informational and staff development purposes
  • Assist in the selection of staff
  • Develop coordinate and evaluate state and federally funded programs including the State English Language Development and others
  • Prepare and manage grants
  • Implement and monitor federal state and district requirements and regulations
  • Develop coordinate implement and monitor assessment procedures for students who are English learners consistent with federal state and local requirements and regulations
  • Partnering with teachers and building administrators to support instructional practices for multilingual learners offering resources modeling strategies as needed by building aligned with student and building needs.
  • Collaborate with building principals to provide professional development and/or instructional coaching on best practices for MLL students grounded in student performance data and language acquisition research.
  • Co-evaluate MLL teachers at each school site to promote high-quality instruction and deliver targeted feedback and coaching aligned to their specific roles and needs.
  • Advise on SRBI practices for MLL students who require intervention including those with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education (SLIFE) to ensure appropriate and responsive interventions.
  • Collaboration with special education evaluation teams (Birth-to-Three Preschool and K-8) to prevent the overidentification of multilingual learners.
  • Keeps current in field
  • Assume other responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent

Performing the job duties of this position requires the following physical demands:

  • Reaching some lifting standing walking carrying bending stooping kneeling crouching sitting and/or crawling.
  • Move small stacks of textbooks media equipment desks and other classroom equipment
  • Must be able to assist in the lifting/carrying of students in excess of 50 pounds
  • Occasional exposure to sun heat cold and inclement weather

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of Administrators.

Salary: In accordance with the Agreement between the Norwich Board of Education and Norwich Administrative Personnel.

Work year: 205 Days
