Job Description

Reporting to the Director Learning Pathways the Manager Inclusive Learning Services provides strategic leadership vision and operational management for the programs and services that support accessible education for Sheridans learning community. This role supports a team of accessible learning advisors learning strategists& assistive technologists and testing service providers. The Manager promotes Sheridans commitment to ensuring accessibility as a partnership between learners professors and the Accessible Learning department including the Assessment Centre and takes a collaborative inclusive and integrative approach to learner and faculty support. The Manager builds and maintains exceptional partnerships both internally (e.g. Student Affairs Academic Faculties Student Union other departments and committees) and externally (i.e. Ministry of Labour Immigration Training & Skills Development with regard to apprenticeship exemption testing) to enhance case management support intersections integrate efforts and enhance the culture of accessibility across the college. The incumbent creatively champions and leads the support for learner needs through supporting creative curriculum delivery including universal design for learning approaches and evaluation methods. As the Accessible Learning leader the Manager enhances operational effectiveness and provides expertise to their team learners Academic Faculties and other staff for complex cases and issues. The incumbent inspires the Accessible Learning team in providing exceptional guidance to faculty staff and students and external partners on accessible education at Sheridan.

What Youll Be Doing

  • Managing day-to-day operations of the Accessible Learning unit at all campuses which includes academic accommodation services learning strategy and assistive technology services and operations of the assessment centre.
  • Ensuring service delivery excellence program development continuous improvement relationship management reporting and compliance.
  • Leading the strategic planning development implementation and assessment of the Accessible Learning department including testing services.
  • Managing program evaluation ensuring continuous improvement aligned with the strategic direction of Student Affairs and Sheridan and ensures that an equity-informed approach is embedded into service delivery and supports the integration of accessibility and inclusion perspectives and approaches relating to experience of disability across the College.
  • Managing the unit human and financial resources including: recruitment providing leadership inspiration and motivation providing orientation training and development opportunities determining performance standards providing ongoing coaching and mentoring and handling a broad range of employee relations matters including grievances; develops and reviews unit budget including costing activities monitoring variances and approving expenditures.
  • Managing and reporting on multiple funding grant envelopes (SAWD AFSD) and is accountable for ensuring steady growth in revenue generation from external testing opportunities.
  • Representative of Student Affairs with a broad-based understanding of the role and priorities of Student Affairs and how its supports impact the student experience and success.
  • Collaborating with Student Affairs leadership ensuring that equity diversity and inclusion is embedded across all service areas.
  • Providing leadership guidance and acts as a consultant on pan-institutional strategic initiatives impacting students with disabilities.
  • Informing senior leadership and stakeholders about emerging trends and anticipated future needs of students influencing organizational decision-making.
  • Performing other related duties projects and initiatives as required.

The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Education Social Work Counselling Social Sciences Equity Studies Psychology or related discipline.
  • 5 years progressive experience in the field of student development or student leadership including at a leadership level- preferably in a post-secondary environment with (equivalencies to be considered):
    • Demonstrates a strong knowledge of student transitions retention and persistence programming and understanding of the post-secondary student life cycle.
    • Experienced with the challenges emerging trends and issues affecting student with disabilities retention and development.
    • Extensive experience in the development implementation and evaluation of postsecondary programs and student success initiatives aimed at promoting student persistence.
    • Experience in institution-wide program planning and delivery is essential.
    • Strong understanding of holistic student development and the unique philosophies and theories; that inform programming and practice in higher education; proven ability to apply these frameworks pan-institutionally.
    • Experience applying principles of inclusivity and inter-cultural competence to meet needs of a diverse student population.
    • Proven ability to work collaboratively and build successful relationships and partnerships.
    • Strong analytical research and assessment skills including analyzing data and ability to interpret trends and present statistics for evidence informed decision making.
    • Project management and research skills.
    • Demonstrates awareness of diversity issues and inclusive program design.
    • Experience with operational management financial acumen budget management and planning.
    • Demonstrated commitment to learning in the field including preventative strategies and activities.
    • Proven experience in leading professional staff in a Unionized environment.
    • Able to manage complex student situations (i.e. comorbidity academic integrity breaches);
    • Experience in the development and implementation of strategic plans.
    • Operational management experience including service enhancement budget development and implementation.
    • Experience with program design implementation and evaluation.
    • Knowledge and experience with drafting funding proposals and accountability reporting.
    • Demonstrated ability to successfully advocate for marginalized students lead and inspire change.
    • Ability to communicate complex theory to a lay audience.
    • Conflict resolution training and experience.
