Multnomah Countys Public Health Division is a vital resource for residents working to promote physical and mental health prevent disease and injury and ensure access to essential health services. Some of our key functions and services include: preventing and controlling diseases supporting maternal and child health addressing mental health and substance use ensuring environmental health and promoting health equity.
The Multnomah County Health Department is seeking a Communicable Disease Intervention Specialist for its Communicable Disease Services (CDS) unit. CDS a unit within the Public Health Division provides communicable disease prevention and education with community partners. Its Investigations and Case Management Team rapidly responds to reportable diseases including case investigation outbreak response and implementing preventive measures to control disease spread following OHA MCHD and CDC protocols.
As a Communicable Disease Intervention Specialist responsibilities include:
Investigation & Control
Investigate and control communicable diseases and outbreaks following Oregon State and Multnomah County policies.
Provide phone consultation to healthcare providers and the public.
Conduct case interviews contact tracing health education and facilitate testing and prophylaxis when necessary.
Respond to public health emergencies participate in daily phone triage and contribute to team protocol updates.
Outbreak Response & Support
Provide guidance and support to facilities experiencing outbreaks including recommending and implementing infection control measures.
Facilitate specimen collection ensure communication with relevant agencies (OHA) and monitor ongoing case information and facility practices.
Participate in communication development for impacted individuals and engage in Incident Command response for large outbreaks.
Training & Protocols
Update protocols and provide training on communicable disease or occupational health topics to community groups or county employees as requested.
Participate in special projects or assignments including community outreach epidemiological studies quality improvement developing health education materials or planning exercises for staff.

Routine Teleworking: At this time this position is designated to hybrid telework meaning you will be working remotely (from home) most of the time and you may be required to attend meetings and events in the community including evenings and weekends occasionally. As with all telework positions employees may be required to come into the office on occasion. The designation of Routine Telework may be subject to change at a future time. Currently all employees must reside in Oregon or Washington; the county cannot support ongoing telework from other locations. The onsite work location for this position is Gladys McCoy Building 619 NW 6th Avenue Portland OR 97209.
Salary/Pay: Please be advised that the pay range listed for this position is intended to provide general guidance on the earning potential for the role. However actual compensation will be determined in accordance with the Oregon Equal Pay Law and will take into account factors such as the candidates relevant experience and education. Candidates should expect that initial offers will be made within the listed pay range and may not be at or near the top of the range.

Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferable Skills*:
Equivalent to an associates degree
Up to one (1) year of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 2-3 years of qualifying training and/or experience).
