Job Description

Position Overview:

The Graduate School of Counseling and Social Work at Merrimack College invites applications for an Internship Placement Coordinator who will be responsible for the coordination of the field practicum/internship experiences and responding to all inquiries from students faculty administrators and external professionals regarding the online and on-campus Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) and School Counseling (SC) programs. Internship Placement Coordinator should be committed to supporting students development of competencies that are essential for addressing the lived experiences of individuals within their communities and society as a whole. Internship Placement Coordinator acts in a manner to promote human rights and liberty and justice for all. The Internship Placement Coordinator serves as the liaison between Merrimack mental health and school counseling placement sites. This is a 12-month staff position with expectations to maintain an on-campus full-time presence at Merrimack College.


On Campus and Online Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling

Aligned with the mission of Merrimack College the Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) and the Masters of Education in School Counseling (SC) represent a dynamic innovative and growth-oriented training programs with a commitment to the principles and values of human rights and liberty and justice for all. Our on-campus and online CMHC and SC programs maintain high-touch engagement and connectedness to meet the needs of graduate students. We prepare students to deliver quality care to clients recognizing their lived experiences influenced by dynamic social contexts using strengths-oriented and evidenced-based interventions. Our graduates are trained to meet the growing demand for mental health and school-based counseling interventions in a number of different settings including outpatient centers hospitals K-12 schools colleges human resource departments substance abuse treatment centers non-profits and government agencies. With the burgeoning telecounseling mental health landscape our online and on-campus CMHC and SC programs enables students to fulfill the education and degree requirements to apply for licensure primarily in Massachusetts the New England region and other states.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Network build and maintain professional relationships with community-based agencies and K-12 schools to identify approved practicum and internship placement sites.

  • Coordinate all aspects of the placement process such as assisting students in applying for placement sites maintaining appropriate documentation and records (e.g. background checks site agreement intent forms hourly logs intern and supervisor evaluation forms etc.) using and managing Tevera an online platform system

  • Conduct Mandatory Practicum/Internship Readiness meetings with students pursuing placement sites.

  • Hold consistent and regular individual group and workshop meetings (in-person and virtually via Zoom) with CMHC and SC graduate students as they seek to secure their placement site.

  • Update revise and maintain CMHC and SC Practicum/Internship manuals.

  • Collect analyze and report internship outcome data in support of curricular program and licensure/accreditation requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with professional standards and requirements of the MA Allied Board of Mental Health Professionals for LMHC MA DESE for Certification as School Counselors and other states for both training programs as needed.

  • Coordinate Supervision Consultation meetings with Program Director for adjunct clinical supervision faculty and field placement supervisors teaching practicum and/or internship courses.

  • Identify and respond to any significant changes in placements supervision process and/or training issues involving potential remediation for students.

  • Attend and participate in CMHC and SC faculty program meetings.

  • Attend and participate in weekly supervision with the CMHC and SC Program Directors.

  • Develop and implement supervisor training and professional development to support the curricular needs of graduate students in the CMHC and SC programs.

  • Other tasks activities and duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in clinical mental health counseling school counseling counselor education counseling psychology or related field

  • 7-10 years professional practice experience after obtaining licensure

  • 3-5 years of clinical supervisor experience

  • 3-5 years of graduate level teaching experience preferably in mental health counseling and/or school counseling

  • Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn about community and mental health agencies hospitals and K-12 schools etc. appropriate for placement sites in the Massachusetts New England region and other states

  • Licensed as a mental health counselor and/or a psychologist in the state of Massachusetts in the New England region or transferrable to the area

  • Certification as a school counselor in the state of Massachusetts in the New England region or transferrable to the area

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and engage effectively with others recognizing and valuing multiple viewpoints and perspectives within groups and communities across environments

  • Evidence of strong organizational interpersonal communication and analytic skills

  • Available to conduct meetings and attend programs in the evenings

  • Computer technology skills and competencies (e.g. Microsoft Word Google Suite etc.)
