TITLE

Manager of College Academic Advising Arts & Sciences

JOB SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the position of Manager of College Academic Advising for the College of Arts and Sciences is to supervise and lead the college advising team of twelve academic advisors. The job primarily exists to manage advising operations coordinate college-wide academic advising initiatives lead assessment of college advising promote best practices and initiate professional development activities for advisors in the college.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Associate Dean College of Arts and Sciences

Supervises: Coordinator of College Academic Advisors Academic Advisor Is Academic Advisor IIs

ESSENTIAL DUTIES -May include but not limited to the following:

  1. Manages the advising operations for the College of Arts and Sciences.
  2. Supervises the coordinators of college academic advising and academic advisors in the College of Arts and Sciences.
  3. Leads coordinates and collaborates on college- and campus-wide advising initiatives and programs with guidance from the Associate Dean and Dean of the College.
  4. Leads and coordinates onboarding and training of advisors in collaboration with coordinators of college academic advising ensuring consistency and compliance with policies and procedures across advisors.
  5. Holds bi-weekly meetings for advising staff to ensure consistency and compliance with policies and procedures.
  6. Initiates and coordinates effective advising practices and processes with academic departments across the College of Arts and Sciences.
  7. Leads coordinates and represents advising at events such as orientation admissions and other campus activities.
  8. Ensures alignment with professional best practices and initiates professional development for college advisors and coordinators of college academic advising.
  9. Leads and coordinates professional development for academic advisors.
  10. Initiates and coordinates assessment of advising practices and conducts college-level advising assessment.
  11. Advises students analyzes and processes degree audits and required academic forms when needed.
  12. Assists in the development implementation and support of advising related technology.
  13. Produces and distributes college-level advising reports.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Serves as a liaison to faculty advisors and other college and university personnel.
  • Supports the overall efforts of University Academic Advising by assisting campus colleagues as needed.
  • Assists with school- and college-specific special projects as requested.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

EDUCATION

Bachelors degree required masters degree in higher education counseling or related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE

A minimum of two years of academic advising in a higher education setting is required.

REQUIREMENT

Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.

All employees share the responsibility of maintaining information security and privacy requirements within the university by adhering to Federal and State regulations and TWU Policies & Procedures.

  2. Knowledge and application of principles and ethics associated with developmental academic advising.
  3. Cultural competence and skills working with a diverse student body.
  4. Knowledge of academic programming related to advising and academic support.
  5. Ability in developing and presenting workshops or training.
  6. Ability to make independent decisions and take appropriate action to work independently and to follow through on assignments with minimal direction.
  7. Proficient organizational administrative and planning skills.
  8. Basic knowledge of data collection analysis and interpretation.
  9. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  10. Ability to multi-task manage multiple priorities and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  11. Self-started demonstrating initiative in a fast-paced higher education environment.
  12. Ability to interact and collaborate with diverse departments across the institution.
  13. Knowledge of university programs policies and practices.
  14. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students faculty staff and the public.
  15. Ability to communicate effectively orally by phone in person and in writing.
  16. Ability to represent the College and University in a friendly courteous and professional manner.
  17. Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment including university-related software and email.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employees are responsible for completing assigned tasks safely and efficiently and supervisors are responsible for creating and maintaining a safe work environment. Supervisors and employees should ensure that injury/accident reports are submitted to the Office of Human Resources and Risk Management within 24 hours of the incident.
