TITLE: Social Emotional Support Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Office of Special Education and StudentSupport Services
JOB STATUS: Teacher on Special Assignment
POSITIONSUMMARY:
The SocialEmotional Support Specialist will serve as a coach for district Priority and/or Focus Schools identified under the Ohio Department ofEducation guidelines. This position will serve the following high schools: WestColumbus North International Marion-Franklin.
ESSENTIALDUTIES:
The SocialEmotional Support Specialist will provide coaching and social emotional learning (SEL) support onhow to embed SEL into daily instruction to three SQIG grant fundedschools for target area Positive Climate and Culture. The duties will include but are not limited to the following areas:
Providetraining and coaching to individual teachers PBIS buildingteams Teacher Based Teams (TBTs) and Building LeadershipTeams (BLTs) relative to Restorative PracticesTrauma Informed Care or other Social Emotional Learning frameworks as well asPositive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) implementation
Supportteachers PEAK IAs instructional coaches and TBTs in theimplementation of Social Emotional Learningframeworks and PBIS relative to theOhio Improvement Process (OIP)
Coach building instructional coaches to effectivelysupport classroom teachersin the implementation of SocialEmotional Learning frameworks and PBIS including PEAK IAs at the elementarylevel.
Deliverprofessional development to teachers in a variety of areasincluding but not limited to:Restorative Practices Trauma Informed Care other Social Emotional Learningframeworks and PBIS
Collaboratewith teachers teams administrators external partners district departments and community partners
Supportstaff utilization of data to drive decision making processes related to PBISimplementation and improved school wide climate and culture.
Demonstratethe ability to communicate effectively
Demonstrateknowledge of the necessary work of priority and focusschools
Assessspecific building needs and supportschools in the developmentof an action plan using data
Workwith schools to usedata to inform andguide behavioral practices in order to increase student achievement
Engagewith staff to design job-embedded professional development aligned to school improvement plans
Provide support toschools in integratingdistrict initiatives into the schoolimprovement process
Supportthe implementation of innovative practicesand programs in schools
Otherduties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess validOhio Teaching licensure appropriate for level (ES MS HS) or school counseloror school social worker license through ODE
Minimumof five years classroom teaching experience in an urban setting or school counseling / school social worker experience
Knowledge of effective behavioralpractices for elementary middle and high school students
Thoroughunderstanding of the SocialEmotional Learning frameworks PBIS and the Ohio Improvement Process
